Mine's due on the 28th.  It'll be extended a week or so beforehand.

Remember if your car is not roadworthy there could be very serious consequences.  The VOSA testing stations (HGV) are being very strict at the moment so don't be surprised if the  police are being extra vigilant with cars too.

I doubt the police have enough vehicle examiners to be extra vigilant at the moment.

No you are probably correct but don't be surprised if they don't jump on minor infractions (eg bulb out) or post crash or poor driving and give the car a once over.

They don't need to. DVSA have their own patrol vehicles and the legal power to pull you over for a vehicle inspection as well as issue fines and prohibition notices. DVSA checkpoints have continued to operate during the crisis and all they need is one police car to pull vehicles in and there's a team of DVSA vehicle inspectors ready and waiting to check peoples cars.
Here's one at Todhills on the M6 willing to take any customers on the way up to Scotland...
Here's one at Ainlee Top at J24 on the M62 happy to take a look at anyone on their way to Blackpool from West Yorkshire.
In South Yorks or Derbyshire and thinking of a trip to Great Yarmouth? Here's one on the A17 near Sleaford happy to take a look.
They're all over the place but you probably don't even notice them.

They haven't. That's why they need the police car.

That's not the police being extra vigilant though is it?

DVSA have the power to stop commercial vehicles so no need for the police.
