Trapped in BT Broadband - FTTP

Good Afternoon,
I'm currently in a new build property and my BT Broadband contract service is ending 17th Aug.
From what I gather I have FTTP in my property and BT have the only rights to sell on the line.
The offer I took when I moved in was Fibre 1 at £35.99 PCM / £80 prepaid card / Amazon Echo 18 mnth contract.
The renewal price being offered is £38.99 locked into a 24 month contract.
I just think it is completely unacceptable that I am not able to search the market for a better deal and effectively locked into BT Broadband.
Is there any other suppliers that I'm not aware of? I have used search engines etc with no result, just says they are unable to supply!
Thanks for you help!

You are not locked into using BT, you can use any supplier that wants to offer service over Openreach’s FTTP network, there are around  5 or 6 of these, but they tend to be premium ISP’s and charge accordingly, and probably not on comparison sites ( probably don’t have the scale to offer kick backs to the comparison site ) there are no budget ISP’s, so if price is the overriding factor , chances are you are already with the cheapest provider.
FWIW , TT and Sky keep saying they are about to launch on OR FTTP but no date or prices yet.

Feel free to pay someone to install an inferior product in the area. As long as the contract with the property devoloper (who is to blame) has expired you can do this.

Since you would be the first and probably only person wanting this. Maybe £10,000 installation fee.

I would kill for FTTP. I also would never by a new build (except if it was a one off to my specs).

  • What a terrible service if you are locked into ridiculous high prices.

All part of what you should have factoted into the costs of buying a new build.

Probably have some crappy restrictive gass tranporter too. (Amonlg many things(.

My point being there is no choice in the market, just BT.  Searching on google, still to find one other company that offers me a service.

Also, I don't need to know your personal opinion about new builds. Not interested. Thanks.

Good to know about Sky, thanks for the info! I will keep an eye on this as I wasn't aware.

    It that a requirement?

The point being you choose to move where you did and are now upset at the options that would have been apparent from the start. (and if you were not aware then maybe pay more attention when buying a house).

As I said there are options. But they will cost more for the install (if allowed) than any saving.

Here you go a list for you https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/fttp-providers

Most (if not all) are dearer than BT.

Please do not assume my lack of awareness when I purchased the property.
My point being that there is a lack of choice, I was told that other providers such as Sky etc would be joining the FTTP network.
Anyway I have got more helpful responses on Facebook from other people who are in new shiny properties with FTTP.
