We overspent on groceries too early in the month so I had pulled some money from Emergency Fund to cover us until payday on Thursday (a bad habit I am trying to get out of), when suddenly I realised that I'd put £28 for al the jars for our garden chutneys and jams through as a "House" spend when actually it's a "Christmas" spend as it's creating gifts for our families. I've been saving up for Christmas all year so perfect! Pulled the money out of the Christmas budget instead. So happy with buying my first Christmas gift in August haha!1

Got paid my latest cat sitting booking, it was a big one so happy with that (don't think I've got any over £100 at all now). Put £38 in emergency fund to get it back to £1,000 before the end of the year, and put the other £66 in the house fund.
Updated house fund from £3,340.09 / 7.9% to £3,406.57 / 8.01%. Extra exciting as payday is Thursday and we should push over 10%1 -
Put 1.8kg of peeled tomatoes in today for chutney. Wow it really reduces down! I was hoping to get 6 small jars + one big jar for us to keep but looks like I might have to give away all of it!
It's very spicy... hopefully not too spicy. Been going for about 2.5hrs now.
Also finally got an £8.25 cashout from Prolific. Takes a long time to arrive.1 -
Many hours later and I only got three small jars out of the whole lot! Oh well. I have plenty more tomatoes on the vine so I am going to try and make double the next amount when they come up. At least I got to test out my recipe. It's delicious! I had the spoon scrapings on a bit of cheddar and it was delicious (though very "fresh" tasting, I think it will be much better when matured)1

I both loathe and love payday. We officially get paid tomorrow, but getting paid into Monzo means we get it a day earlier, but only after 4pm! I have done all my YNAB budgeting this morning as though I've got the cash but I just need it to drop so I can start divvying it up! It's such an annoying waiting game.1

I really understand loving and loathing payday, I’m the same. I wait for it all month, then pay off what I can, earmark direct debits, save what I can and then spend the rest of the month scraping by on what’s left, wishing for the next pay day!Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

I also saved for Christmas, US Holiday and Italy next year. I set aside money for our annual subs (Disney+, YNAB, Ocado delivery pass, Amazon Prime) and saved for all our car expense pots too (which includes service, tax, MOT, misc, car wash, insurance).1 -
Oh and I forgot the best bit, we're now 10% towards our deposit!
Very happy
Next big target will be reaching 25% which is just over £10k.1 -
You are doing well on the house deposit saving and totally empathise with the credit card situation and your OH. My DH only uses our credit card (he is second cardholder) for food and fuel and knows it has to be paid off in full each month. His £200 spending money is all he has access to for personal spending or he would also take the view of use the credit card and pay it off whenever. Paying for holidays, meals out, house stuff comes out of joint spending money so I am of the opinion if I can manage on £200 a month (with my £40 hairdresser bill every 6 weeks) then so can he.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
