  • Some great suggestions there from the 'get rich quick with no work' crew.

A wonderful example of why our insurance premiums are so high.

I'd say you should be ashamed of yourselves for suggesting the OP invents injuries, but doubt if its possible.

Good luck OP with sorting out this unfortunate accident, motorways can be very lonely places when your stuck.
I think you'll be ok, hear good things generally about Direct Line.

Unfortunately most of the reason is uninsured drivers (including in part illegal immigrants/foreigners) and policy fronting, whereby a parent insures the car in their name adding the offspring as a named driver. Both of these practices are illegal and unfortunately most people don't bat an eyelid with the second one, despite the fact that legally the person driving the car is technically uninsured. Oh and the people who cut off their brake lights to intentionally make an accident occurr so they can claim off your insurance.

Who's to say it's wrong to claim off someone's insurance when they've smashed into you and it's their fault?! It's not like you cut your brake lights off!!! And you're a perfectly law obiding citizen. Oh yeah, and if they're not insured, you're getting practically nothing. To all those people moaning about it being wrong, I hope you all get hit by uninsured drivers :rotfl:

Consider it fraud if you aren't injured.

consider it payback for over inflated insurance for years, consider it money for waiting on the payout and having to buy another car out of your own cash untill then, consider it stealing from thieves, consider it the extra amount to make up your payout to the actual market value of your car, consider it as insurance companies do take into account a minimum of £2000 for this type of thing.

Thanks for that. Just when I think you can't come up with any more crass comments, you come out with a corker.

Ok then, with that sort of thinking,

Benefit Fraud-consider it payback for all the tax you have been fleeced out all these years..

Shoplifting-consider it payback for over inflated prices (Supermarkets would be a good bet after the milk price fixing discovery...)

I'm sure there are countless other examples. Doesn't make them right.

I'm all for getting our own back and consumer revenge but making up/exaggerating injuries hurts the consumer more in the end and hurts the person you are claiming against the most. For the next five years they will be asked "any injuries and how much did it cost?". Might serve a boy racer right but most ppl have 'accidents' by accident.

I was in a car last Sunday that was hit from behind by a car . I banged my head on the head restraint and it was a bit sore for an hour or so, but I never for one second thought about claiming compensation.

We rang our insurance straightaway and I mentioned that I banged my head ( on the basis that some injuries aren't immediately obvious at the time) but mentioned nothing about a claim and I said I was not going to my GP or hospital.

Several days later we are indunated with forms to fill in about personal injury compensation, a letter from a solicitor saying they are acting for us on the claim and that an appointment will be made for me to see a doctor !

I phoned them to say I didn't want or need to claim for compensation and they seemed a bit surprised.

I can now see why premiums are going up so fast, if people are prepared to claim for anything, however minor

How injured would you have had to be to consider making a claim?

I have been in car accidents where I have been injured and needed hospital treatment. My partner had a successful personal injury claim last year where his glass exploded into his foot at work and needed time off work.

My point is that common sense would tell me whether a claim was appropriate and this time in my case it was obviously not. I would have been embarassed to go along with it

When I asked my question I was hoping for an answer. What I actually got was two random anecdotes and a waffle concerning common sense, which is what I was expecting.

How long is a piece of string? If I'd suffered loss as a result of the injury then I would expect to be compensated for that loss (e.g. salary/income/medical bills) If I hadn't then what would I be claiming for?
