Advise If A Thread Commented On Gets Removed Please 😣

I commented on a thread a day or so ago and when i returned to find follow up answers/comments on it it had disappeared.

Site Mods - instead of just making that thread disappear a little courtesy would be appreciated and tell the commenters (via an inbox message) that you have felt it necessary to remove it for whatever reason, do not just remove it with no notice; very bad form, a little politeness please.

You have got to be kidding!

To start with there are no mods on this site
Some threads have been running for weeks if not longer and have hundreds of contributors before they get removed.
Removal of threads has been going on for years, just scroll down this board and check out how many times it has been asked "Why was ******* removed" and how many times it was answered by MSE.
I am not defending MSE, I don't like it when a thread that I have contributed to is removed but that is the way of live forums.

Ok, if not mods, then whoever is responsible for removing the thing in the first place.

On other forums, i visit, there is always, always, notification of a post you've commented on gets removed - that's why i posted this.

I recently posted on the Fathers Day thread and that has been deleted. No idea why but there has never to my knowledge been any notification from MSE when something is deleted

When posters are asked to be polite the message goes both ways - the 'overseers' need to use some of this politeness too 😣

You get notified if a specific post has been removed after a complaint.
they tell you that it was removed and a general reason why but not who complained.
you only get so many of these 'removals' and then you start getting warnings
There is also a couple of 'Forum Teams' that scan the boards looking at threads and posts for anything untoward, they also keep an eye on certain posters and continually check on their posts.

No you don't, I've had a recent post removed with no notification, and actually the annoying part is it only needed tiny edit to make it compliant (which I've seen happen elsewhere on the forum) [I had mentioned a referral - not posted a link or anything just that it was possible].

The forum software should be setup to notify thread participants that its been deleted, it would also be handy it it automatically told a poster if their post is removed.

Its tiny little things like this that make the forum experience better - for example I would be more likely to report spam/stuff if I received some sort of notification that something happened, absence of of anything makes me wonder if anything happened or not.

I've never been notified that one of my posts has been removed (and there's been a few thanks to someone taking the time to trawl through my posts looking for the slightest thing worth reporting).

I think you only get notified if they think it warrants a warning.

I must be special then as the first time I got a single post removed I got a message in my inbox about it and it was not an official warning.
  • The truth is this is a very busy forum (not as busy as it used to be, but that's another story) It has always been MSE policy to take sledgehammers to crack nuts, its perhaps the best policy, who knows? I suppose the answer is to those who don't like how MSE is run that there are many many more forums out there  B)

No; I disagree. It's their ballgame, their ball, their rules, even if they make them up as they go along. If one doesn't like the way they play then one needs to go and play elsewhere. As users of a free forum we have no entitlement.
    Just my opinion.
