Hi
We are expecting a baby in November and wondered if anybody could tell us if we are entitled to a second scan at 20 weeks as the hospitals are being very scetchy about this, my missus seems to think you would only get one if there were problems of some kind.
many thanks

I am (in South East area), but my friend in Preston is not.
I think you should check with your doctor directly as it appears that different authorities do different things!
Best of luck

in our District/Trust Bournemouth/Christchurch it was a single scan at 20 weeks, all dependent on authorities I think, and as you suggest also if they deem a second(or more) scan necessary for medical reasons0

Yep, same here. I had a 20 week scan but others only get a booking scan, it depends where you are.
If you or the midwives are worried about your baby they'll book you a scan anyway so don't worry too much.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
Crikey - I'm really lucky - on all of mine, I had one at 8wks sh to make sure I was pregnant, it was AOK and to date it, went back at 12/14 weeks to check all AOK and again at 20 weeks to check all AOK and tell me the sex!
Its amazing what you get in other areas!0 -
My mate's a medical secretary and they've reduced it to just one scan in the Midlands too. But she said all you have to do if you are worried is go and say so, or that you are in pain and they'll give you another.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0

I didn't mean to snap, it's just that I know that it wouldn't stop at a scan, it would mean an admission, notes, doctor, extra bed etc.

I wouldn't wish that kind of worry on anyone, though, so was in 2 minds whether to post or not.
And you didn't snap - you said "please"
