Easyjet outward flight cancelled but return currently shown as running

Hi, we were due to fly Liverpool to Nantes in 2 weeks. That flight has been cancelled by Easyjet & I've applied for a refund as no indication of when Nantes flights will be going again. Our plan was 4 nights in Nantes, train to Paris, 3 nights there & then fly back, again with Easyjet, to Manchester. That flight on 2nd July is shown as operating. Has anyone any experience of the outward flight being cancelled but inbound still operating? Advice is still not to travel, hotels are still not open (both are happy to move our booking to whenever we can get there!) and Easyjet can't fly us out. Their T&Cs seem to indicate that if the flight is operating, it's tough luck, even though they can't fly us out. Advice/thoughts? Thanks

You haven't bought a return ticket, as you are flying LIV-NAN, then PAR-MAN. So, you are correct, each leg is separate, and cancellation of the outbound doesn't cancel the inbound.
So you are only entitled to a refund for LIV-NAN. However, the cancellations are done on a rolling basis, so you may yet find that the inbound leg is cancelled in a week or so. You can either wait, or apply for an outbound refund now.

  • yes, agree with what you've said. I've already applied for the outbound refund as we definitely won't be going. I've just in the last half hour had a further email to say the CDG-MAN flight has been moved, but only by 30mins. Looking at the timetable now, it seems there are flights 2x/week on Thursdays & Sundays and this covers our flights, so I think it may well be flying, although it does seem to be the very first scheduled flight.  I guess if it flies and we can't get a refund then we try and get the money back via our insurance, which pre-dates the virus - we booked last November!

no, separate, which of course complicates things!

Looks like the options are, hope it is cancelled,  move it for free to another date (just pay any fare difference), or claim from your insurer.

yes, agree. I don't particularly want to book another flight at the moment as we don't know when we will be able to go again, or when our hotel will re-open. I'd happily take a flight voucher but that doesn't seem to be an option for our situation. Also the free transfer has to be 14 days in advance but they may not have cancelled it by then! Looks increasingly like the insurance route.

Is there much of an excess with your insurer?

£50pp. The flights were £130 in total so we'd get £30 back I guess. Does anyone know what the situation is if government advice is still not to travel (unless essential)?

The  Government advice doesn't matter to flights only.
If you do think you will go on the trip in the  next year, moving the flights might be the best option.
