MSE Poll: Have you got a summer holiday booked?

We’ve got a trip to Sydney booked for mid September which includes two inter-state long weekends whilst we’re there. Clearly, our biggest concern is that Australia will still be closed to external visitors. We haven’t cancelled any flights, our accommodation is all cancellable for free, so we’re playing a waiting game on Australia opening up to us. I’m not confident we’ll be going, hubby is.0

Flying in the current scenario described by the airlines does not appeal to me, even to the nearest popular destinations in Spain - an extened long haul to Australia (for example) makes me wince at the prospect.

Flights to Tenerife in May were cancelled and refunded by Jet2.com without problems. However, still have flights to Mexico with Tui for August 5th and 2 weeks timeshare accommodation with Vidanta. Waiting for updates from both, but hoping everything will still go ahead as planned.0

Exactly, and I have been doing the same thing as I firstly don't think it will be safe to travel overseas and secondly, like you, I don't see us being free or able to do the things we would normally want to do. Sometimes a relatively small loss is a price worth paying. We've been fortunate enough so far to either get refunds, hotel credits, or cruise credits that we can apply to other new or existing 2021 bookings when matters calm down, just one £200 cruise deposit with MSC that looks very much as though it'll be lost as they are being very stingy with forward dates for penalty free changes of booking, and final payment is early August...Pollycat said:I've just cancelled my Greece August holiday.Balance was due this Thursday and we were not happy about the potential airport arrangements - check-in, security, flight, passport control on arrival, luggage reclaim, coach transfer - and in reverse. Also not convinced that the holiday would be as we would want it to be - local buses, trips, possibly not being able to get into restaurants, round the pool etc.The icing on the cake was when I found out that our early morning flight that got us back in the UK mid-afternoon had been changed to a mid-afternoon departure that got us back in the UK at 00:45.So we let JET2 keep our £120 deposit and walked away.1 -
Booked to travel mid-August and was willing to lose my deposit but the balance was taken from my account at 2am
one night last week. Now I’m trying to rebook same time same place next year but it’s coming in £600 dearer! On top of that I’d need to pay £140 rebooking fee. Nightmare.0 -
...Whereas I've just booked a week in Santorini for the end of August. Only a small deposit with balance due just 3 weeks out, so very limited risk, but I'm cautiously optimistic that it won't be too restrictive by then. And it was very very cheap for the quality we're getting. Risk/reward calculation in my book.Pollycat said:jimmygintheuk said:Flights to Tenerife in May were cancelled and refunded by Jet2.com without problems. I have to ask though, how does a mid afternoon flight from Greece only get you home after midnight? Or is it a connecting flight (didn't think Jet2 did those...)?

We’ve just booked flights to Ibiza for a week in October, after having had our usual trip cancelled by Tui for June. This time however, we are booking an apartment so we can do our own thing and not have any potential hotel restrictions. We are pretty confident we will be going, but worst case scenario is losing the cost of the flight if we decide not to go for any reason. We are happy with that as it won’t be a lot to lose in the grand scheme of things.0

We were due to go to Spain early July wth our teenage daughter who was going to join us at either end of the holiday and attend a summer school in the middle. The summer school has been cancelled and we've received all but our deposit back so far. Fortunately we hadn't got round to booking flights and accommodation. I don't think we'll be going anywhere this year. Quite envious of those who are talking about a Sept/Oct holiday instead, this isn't really possible for us with a child entering their final year of education.0
