My Bad!! The thermostat was replaced. It was also replaced in 2015. To date, the immersion heater has not been replaced.MWT said:Heely said:New element. That is the thermostat, not the heating element.Sounds like your neighbour has replaced the thermostat which may or may not have been broken, but if the tank wasn't drained then he didn't replace the immersion heater itself...0 -
My bad!tim_p said:
That’s where I was going. Changing an element isn’t for the unwary. I think it was mentioned that it was changed in 2015 too. (Gonna tempt fate here but..) our element is 22 years old and in that time I’ve only replaced the stat once, I’m blaming that failure on ‘funny’ juice from the solar diverter.MWT said:Heely said:New element. That is the thermostat, not the heating element.Sounds like your neighbour has replaced the thermostat which may or may not have been broken, but if the tank wasn't drained then he didn't replace the immersion heater itself...0 -
The cover was removed to take the pic (as requested). Cover is back on.Talldave said:
Sorry missed that in crossed postings. So the element's knackered then - simples!Gerry1 said:No, see 2:45pm post. Or perhaps the neighbour just stood upside down instead...
I assume there is a cover that goes over that lower immersion element when we're not in diagnosis mode?

Both Original and Replacement T-stats are Megaflow TSEThe original t-stat was a Cotherm TSR with max setting of 160º C. Replacement 'stat is a TSE with maximum of 70 as above. Might account for the confusion with settings.
Or the heater element may be knackered as well . .

If you look at your photo of the old one it says TSR on it.Heely said:

I suggest setting the thermostat midway between 4 and 5 and that should give you about 60 degree water.

Thanks. I will turn up the thermostat. However, the water heater switch did not light up during off peak hours.

Also, when tested last night there was no voltage from the t-stat
What is the difference between TSE and TSR?0 -

And now here is next week's news..."Help ! I asked my neighbour to replace my immersion heater element, and he did it at the weekend. It's great, and I now have lots of cheap hot water in the morning."However, I've noticed a big brown patch on the ceiling downstairs, and it seems the tank is leaking from the bottom of the immersion heater. How do I stop it leaking, e.g. can I pour in a few bottles of RadWeld and turn the thermostat up to 120C? And how much compensation am I due from my neighbour?"0

Hmm bad news. From a Q&A on a vendor's site:Q: Is the Cotherm TSE00187 shown suitable for a Heatrae Sadia Megaflo? I have one showing "T115" to replace
A: Hi, The TSE is not suitable for the Megaflow as they sense temperature form a different part of the stem, you would require a TSR00014, these are not available online. Only by phone.
Sorry Heely, it looks like you may have the wrong thermostat for your tank -- you need another TSR. If you have a manual for the Megaflow, best to check what it says about it.
If you are lucky, the seller might exchange the current one for a TSR 00014 (if that's what it needs).0 -
Thanks. Could that be why the water heater switch does not come on off peak?Hmm bad news. From a Q&A on a vendor's site:Q: Is the Cotherm TSE00187 shown suitable for a Heatrae Sadia Megaflo? I have one showing "T115" to replace
