I remember buying a cheaper Draper one which I didn't like and binned it after only a couple of years. I didn't trust it and I thought I might damage something with it. Maybe if you have damaged things using a torque wrench the torque wrench might not have been OK.0

OP you could have had an oil change done for £55-60 at national tyres plus a £5 off voucher.........they are a big chain company but nowhere near as bad as kwikfit of halfords0

Just my sense of humour. I know I take some crazy risks. Not having my torque wrenches re-calibrated is one of them.0

I have to use torque wrenches at work for tightening just about every nut, bolt and screw that I fit and these tools have to be checked prior to each job and in many cases, the indications on the gauge are often a long way from the true figures.0 -
Maybe African tools aren't too good.0

fred246 said:I've just been looking at youtube videos of how to change oil. Never done it before because I've never needed. Not one of them shows you using a torque wrench to put the drain plug back. There's always a torque wrench setting specified so why not use it? There's one by a Scotty Kilmer titled "You're doing it wrong" that shows a long extension bar to loosen the drain plug and then he uses the long extension bar and says tighten it nice and tight! Lunacy. It's the same with spark plugs and roadwheel nuts. Always use a torque wrench and you can't go wrong.
But, I thought in previous threads that you told everyone not to use garages and to use YouTube if you didn't know what you were doing?2
