I find it rather hard to believe that just a damaged washer on the sump plug caused oil to run out like a tap, so that the pool of oil ran out from under the car whilst he was still filling it, if it were mine I'd be investigating further myself452 said:You would go to all that trouble when a new washer was all that's needed. You must have been one of those mechanic Fred's dad once used.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

The whole thread is very suspicious. I was saying how if you can't DIY a mobile mechanic is a good idea and suddenly a newly registered person comes out with this story of a disaster with a mobile mechanic. The people I know who have used mobile mechanics have always had them recommended to them. They have been experienced mechanics who prefer to work for themselves. Never need to advertise. Mechanics don't need any qualifications or registration so theoretically anyone could advertise their services as a mobile mechanic. You would have to be very inexperienced to run off after a leak from a washer round a drain plug.0
