Do Working Links operate in your area? Ask for a referral from your job centre - they may pay for driving lessons (or motor bike training)Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

Obviously being on a chatboard you know how to use a computer but can you make full use of Word Processors, Spreadsheets, databases etc.? there are plenty of free online courses avaialble for these and th4e government used to run one called 'CLaIT'

I just wanted to add my 2penny worth about CLAIT.
I left school in 1990 with no qualifications at all. I have recently completed CLAIT level 1 and acheived a diploma. I also did CLAIT PLUS and acheived 4 units. The course was run by Adult Education in my local high school during the afternoon. You could also apply for concessions and pay a small fee.
I completed my courses earlier this year and now I work part time as a GP Receptionist in a health centre.0 -

Llandudno, the nearest big place that has jobs- the earliest I can get there is 10-30 and I have to leave by 4-00 in order to get home because my local connector bus service is run by a different company. And that is with 3 hours of traveling involved. To answer a earlier question I am 20
why?

TurkishDelight - you mentioned in a deleted thread meeting some wonderful Portugese & Polish folk. They don't sound the types to be idling around at the Jolly Giro - why don't you ask them to have a word with their employers on your behalf ?0

The way my son got a job in the end was the Jobcentre sent him to a trainiing centre and while he was there asked them to fix him up with a work placement at Matalan (where he had applied twice before and got no comeback). They did this and he worked for them for two weeks whist still claiming his JSA. At the end of two weeks they took him on (relief!) and he has now been there seven months and enjoying it.
However......Matalan do not employ most staff fulltime and therefore his hours are variable part-time. He does not want to change his job yet because he thinks any future employer will think he has no stickability. So he is working the part-time oours on minimum wage.
Could the Jobcentre fix you up with a work placement? If you can show what you can do you may be offered a position.
I hope you get a job soon.[/quote]
I'm one of those who run these training courses for the Jobcentre and would like to offer some encouragement for people who genuinely want to find work;
Once you understand that 25% of vacancies are not advertised, and if you are prepared to be flexible in the type of work you are prepared to do, there are a couple of ways to find employment. One is to try the speculative approach: make a list of businesses in your area and send a good CV and a speculative letter to them or ring them up.
Another way is get the placement officer to put you on a work placement with an employer and if you 'go the extra mile', you will most likely be taken on as staff.
We have helped people to pay for copy birth certificates, provisional licences, sign up for the 'wheels to work' (http://www.devon.gov.uk/wheels_to_work but this is throughout the UK), pay for work/interview clothing, pay for courses eg ECDL.
We would not be in business unless we had success in finding people work.
As I have said, people need to be flexible because though we have had extraordinary success in securing people in their preferred job choice (eg bus driving, gamekeeping, IT consultancy), sometimes, people have to take any work placement/job just to give them up-to-date references and current work experience. (It is easier to get a job once you are in one, even if it's a work placement.)
Hope this helps.0
