The OP (joint exor) has already  provided the Pru with
my fathers death certificate, the details of his last addresses for the last 20 years of his life, my mums death certificate and will and my ID.

Presumably she has also confirmed ( and anyway her mother's will no doubt states) that she is the sole residuary legatee.

The Pru seem to be going over the top?

I'm inclined to think that the sum of money involved is quite substantial - and that the Pru are doing everying to cover their six in case something comes back to bite them.

But OP has still not said what 'Pru' have asked for in relation to the other Executor.
  • The Pru have said they need the other executors authorisation before they will release anything. As I only traced the other executor yesterday I responded to their latest letter saying they need to trace her (and that they would try to and asking me if I knew anything) with her address and phone number (after asking her permission and telling her what was going on as much as I know anyway), so back to waiting for their next move....

Thanks for providing that info, which was what I thought Pru might want. Hopefully they will now contact her for authority to release funds to you and will release them without delay.

    What a nosey bunch!  ;)
Please keep us updated OP.  :)
  • So small update. The Pru wrote to the other executor asking all sorts of personal information including her bank details! which in my view is a disgusting way to correspond and treat an older lady (shes over 75) in the current climate when fraud and phishing it so prevalent.  The Pru refused to discuss anything around their correspondence with the other executor with me so when I caught up with her after a couple of weeks she told me all this.
So apparently after verifying all this with the CAB and her bank as she was understandably nervous about providing this info she has sent them everything they aske for. I have a string suspicion this is far from over and get the overwhelming feeling that this process is purposefully made so complicated to avoid paying monies out as by their own admission they would not be breaking any laws to provide this information its just not their internal policy

If the Pru wanted to avoid paying out it would have been a lot simpler for them to simply not contact you or anyone else in the first place. They have to be absolutely sure they are paying out to the right people especially in the current climate when fraud is so prevalent.  You just need to be patient - you never know the sum involved might be really worth the wait.
