So bit of an update, I have been corresponding with the Pru and they have a pension in my dads name, its complicated as he died, then my mum died all 20 years ago so lots of paperwork and tings being exchanged and a potential curve ball that I may have to find the other executor of my mums will (I was the other) and haven't seen her for 7/8 years and have no current contact details or way to contact her.
Anyway the words the pru used were 'substantial sum' although I am very certain it wont be 5 figures anything would be a nice surprise.
If the Pru are thinking 'probate' then it may be more than you think - although you are wise not to get your hopes up too much !
Are you the only likely beneficiary, or do you have siblings?  Have you told the Pru that you are no longer in contact with the other executor?

Thanks.  In that case, I suspect that the Pru are just going through a box ticking exercise, primarily to ensure that OP is the legal beneficiary of this money.

Hopefully it will be resolved with just the usual death certificates/copy of Will and OP's proof of identity.

Yep its just me. So far they have had I think my fathers death certificate, the details of his last addresses for the last 20 years of his life, my mums death certificate and will and my ID. If they push me down the executor route (which I am hoping they wont but looks likely) that's the last hurdle (so I am told).

That's the benefit of an older executor, quite often they are in the phone book as that's how things were back in the day.

For ease you may just want to ask the other executor if she is happy to have power reserved and leave everything up to you.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • Sorry, what would she need to do to do that?

Probate was granted to both exors twenty years ago.

I guess that means the ship sailed for this option 20 years ago?

So what exactly have The Pru asked you for?

If you've managed to trace the other Executor, can you not simply give the contact details you've found, to The Pru?

Sadly, yes. However, it might be possible for her to give you her written authority to act now in any matter pertaining to your late mother's estate. Without knowing exactly what The Pru want, its difficult to suggest a solution.
