    Hi zcars

Why do you say that about Intrum? They are FCA-registered and the OP said they bought this debt.
  • Hi,
Intrum are not authorised. Their appointed servicer is and, as any correspondence is sent by the servicer, said correspondence will state the servicer is authorised by the FCA. This does not assist Intrum however, as they are not authorised to exercise the rights and duties of a lender.
It is also notable that their accounts are currently overdue. As confirmed on the Companies House website.
A simple letter stating a debt has been purchased is actually insufficient to prove that it has.

But the FCA site says they are: (Details last confirmed: 17 Mar 2021)
    Debt-collecting
Exercising or having the right to exercise the lender's rights and duties in relation to high-cost short-term credit
Exercising or having the right to exercise the owner's rights and duties under a regulated consumer hire agreement
Exercising/having right to exercise lender's rights and duties under a regulated credit agreement (excluding high-cost short-term credit, bill of sale agreement, and home collected credit agreement)
Why do you say they're not?
  • Hi,
Where does it say they are authorised?

    On the FCA register

It's not  highly suspicious it has taken Intrum so long to provide an alleged agreement; they had to get it from Egg

The FCA expects that a firm will confirm at least annually that these details are accurate.

  • Hi,

You are both incorrect unfortunately. The company you will be looking at on the FCA register, and this is omitted from Sourcrates post, is Intrum's alleged servicer, or sister company.

Reference was made earlier to the OP stating a debt had been purchased. I can more or less guarantee that whatever notice the OP received, it did not specify that company you see on the FCA register as being the company that allegedly made the purchase. Although it may or may not specify the company as a servicer, the alleged purchaser will be identified by a different name. Try searching for that company on the register.
  • I'll throw you a bone. Try searching 04140507 as a company number at the Companies House website.

Different company number to that relating to the FCA record which Sourcrates refers? Yes. Different company completely? Also yes.

It would probably assist if the OP could confirm which company is specified as the alleged purchaser in the notice received, as opposed to who said notice directs the consumer to contact regarding repayment. I'm pretty sure you'll find it to be the company attributed reference 04140507

Now we've established that, try searching the alleged purchaser by its incorporated name or separate reference 04140507 on the FCA register. Try both if you wish.

Not authorised/unknown to the FCA? Yes once again.

Anyone receiving correspondence from these types of firms, and Intrum especially, should seek professional legal advice. Being advised blind that a company is authorised to undertake the work it does, when it is not, simply is of detriment and of no assistance.

As for it not being suspicious it having taken so long for a consumer to be provided with an alleged agreement, or any document for that matter, simply because one financial house has to request it from another financial house; have carrier pigeons also been furloughed this past year?
  • No rebuttal to that then...
