Just remember the 12 days are only guidelines, Intrum must refer back to the original creditor, whose staff will most likely still be working from home.
It could take a few months.

Thanks Sourcrates. I think I may have gotten slightly ahead of myself there.

  • I wrote to all my credit cards over two years ago for a CA check. As expected most ignored it. Of the seven cards I had two who replied with the required evidence. A year later one other sent me the evidence. A whole year. Another company, Robinson Way, chase me regularly by phone for two of the unenforceable debts but I just tell them to write. I've told them that the debts are unenforceable and to leave me alone but the poor soul on the phone either doesn't understand or is just going by their script.

Intrum have actually been fairly reasonable and have recently given me an offer to pay only 20% of the debt. If I had the spare cash I might take them up on that offer.
  • Well, it's the end of August and still nothing. I know they can take their time in finding the agreement, but I'm taking this as a good sign.

Remember, most staff are working from home, its unlikely your request will have been actioned at all yet.
My advice, go about your daily life as normal, forget about it, until they write back.

  • Well, it’s been a fair while since I’ve updated this, but Intrum have been in touch again asking for payment.
I’ve phoned them and told them I asked last year for a copy of the agreement, they said they had it and would send a copy to me.
Yesterday, I get a letter through the post saying I can repay £36.80 a month and they will also write off 30% off the balance, but no reference to the agreement that they say they have?!?!?

Standard DCA tactics, ignore letter contents, concentrate on asking for payment.

There was a fly on the wall documentary a few years ago about the debt collection dept at payday lender Uncle Buck.
The call handlers were expected to call so many clients per day to obtain payment of arrears, and to ignore all other issues, just get the money.

I can imagine similar briefings at collection call centres throughout the nation.

  • I thought as much.
I’ll keep waiting until they provide me with the agreement...and not pay a penny until then. Fingers crossed.

Well, I had a letter over the weekend from Intrum, with a copy of the signed agreement from 2007. I’ll have to call them today to work out a payment plan now.

  • Hi,
I'd take it a little slower before arranging any repayment.
Apart from the fact it is highly suspicious it has taken Intrum so long to provide an alleged agreement; are you sure the document is actually a credit agreement, or an agreement compliant with the provisions of the Consumer Credit Act and associated provisions? Just because a debt purchaser has advised you that they have provided a compliant credit agreement, does not in fact mean that they have.
Are you also aware that Intrum are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority to exercise the rights and duties of a lender, if they were to attempt to issue legal proceedings for instance?
I would seek some advice regarding the document you have found. If you search Intrum in Google you'll probably find someone who would be willing to take a look at it for you.
