Absolute nightmare with Virgin

Hi guys, I'm really hoping for some advice in regards to dealing with Virgin. I am at a point where I'm quite angry. I like to think that im fair with everyone that I deal with but at the moment I'm just dissatisfied and I'm almost at the point where I'm thinking I'll just forget the holiday deposit, book with someone else and never ever even think about booking with them again.

When the Coronavirus stuff hit, both myself and my husband lost our contracts, and its left us in a position where going on our holiday this year isnt a possibility at all, so I held off, hoping that everyone who needed to deal with virgin immediately would have their issues dealt with, but I kept seeing people saying that their holiday has gone up thousands of pounds whilst trying to get hold of Virgin. I also became worried that theres a limited chance of us getting back on our feet enough to pay more than the holiday was we had booked. It took 2 weeks of non stop trying to get hold of Virgin. When we did the holiday we were trying to change to had increased in price by almost £1000 (so swapped from a 5* holiday to a 2* and essentially paying the same)  but I'm just happy to have a holiday to look forward to for next year.

I also paid 50PP to change the dates to next year and downgrade hotel etc.

Virgin have changed where our flight is from. Not a problem. Again, just happy to be looking forward to going.

I then check the details of my booking. The entire balance of our booking is now due just shy of a year earlier that the holiday is supposed to be going ahead.

Virgin charged me for the change, but dont seem to have changed the due date. I cant get hold of anyone to change this, and why the hell am I trying to contact them for something that should not be an issue? Isn't that part of the £50pp weve agreed to pay for the change of date?

I wasnt made aware that there was a change in the terms and conditions that the holiday needs paying 13 weeks or so before travel. No one else I know has to pay off their holiday a year in advance through virgin.

I promise I'm not usually one to complain, but the fact that its nigh on impossible to get hold of someone at Virgin, its left me feeling quite anxious, and actually angry to be having this problem.

As it currently stands I have £4k to pay in 7 weeks or so, or risk losing our holiday.

I wish I could just cancel the holiday, get back my deposit and just organise the whole thing myself.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've never had to complain to a holiday provider before, but this seems like the only way I'll get any help at this point.
