  • It'd be nice if unticking 'retirement properties' stopped showing retirement properties, on dear of death for the estate agents!

I'd like, Garage really. Or they could just do a keyword field like Zoopla...

Currently searching for a flat for a parent, who won't live on the ground floor. If I could filter that out it would be a lot easier.

Here's what looks like a nice tool for finding neighbourhoods
    https://www.findahood.com/find
Apparently I want to live in (parts of) Brighton or Hastings?
I wiggle the things about a bit but it's quite adamant on the places it thinks I should live.

The SW bit on the outskirts of London, mainly, which isn't that far from where I'm from originally.

Oh, and one random place in Liverpool.

That thing's uncanny.  Nineteenth on the list, when entering my requirements, was the neighbourhood next door to the one I currently live in.  No need to move then!  Everything higher up the list was in Croydon or similar outer London areas.

I think a really good additional filter for me would be proximity to closest station!
Also whether it is freehold or leasehold
And also service charge and ground rent. If this information was freely accessible it would make my life so much easier!!  I don't know why it is so rare for Agents to list the service charge. I am presuming it is a marketing tactic, as it can put off a lot of people. It's just annoying though, it's like walking into a shop with products that do not have price tags!
  • Probably already been said but these are things I check

-- Distance to nearest well-served railway station-- along actual roads/paths, not as the fly crows-- with by-foot and driving options.
-- Distance by road/path to nearest convenience store
-- Distance by road/path to neasrest large supermarket
-- Distance by road/path to nearest Post Office
    -- Square footage

-- Solar gain figures would be handy data though not filter -- from window sizes and compass direction facing

For me it's the SW edge of London all around the area I actually live.
And again, some random place in Liverpool.

The options I would have liked were:

Private garden rather than garden which was shared etc. Looked at so many properties trying to find one with its own garden.

    Shower / wet room.

Electric / gas and electric, would have ruled properties out quicker.

When doing a county search be able to exclude X, Y and Z area.

When saying no new build / shared ownership etc it meant they wouldn't pop up in the search.

Aside from that it was quite painless!
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

Bit late to the party here, but for me it would be -

A decade (or even a century, lol!) search so I could sift out and disregard anything newer than say about 1900  ;)

The dimensions of gardens/land that come with the property. When we purchased our current home two years ago we were looking for something with acreage, but for the right property would have considered a bit less. Many EAs do give this info for places with lots of land, but anything smaller than an acre is often not specifically mentioned. Our cottage actually only has half an acre or so, but that info was left out of the details so we almost missed it....

A category for projects - and by that I mean complete wrecks as several of our homes have been  :D I don't want to waste my time trawling through loads of properties that have been *renovated* or *remuddled* to someone else's taste, ha!

Square meterage/footage should be compulsory on all listings/displayed prominently and featured in the options so you can rule out anything too small....or too large!

A rural filter would be fabulous too as would a PITA neighbour filter  :)

Definitely agree about being able to filter out certain parts of specific areas. Personally I'm not keen on the map search facility and rarely use that.

Having the keyword search on RM now is certainly a step in the right direction!
