Don't forget the lake! I bought a house on top of a ridge and the land slopes away, both sides. Stupid really, but won't do it again!

Dormer bungalows or chalet houses being described as a house or a bungalow. They are neither!  Without a proper roof space insulation and keeping the property warm in the winter and cool in the summer can be a real issue.
Conservatories  - most are cheap without proper roof insulation and they limit light into the main living area.
Orientation of house for those who want south facing ( I know you can check on google maps which way it faces). Just watched a rerun of Location location location and there was a very picky buyer who only wanted south facing , among other things , who refused to discuss the c word (comprimise), needless to say she didn't like anything. Superficially all smiles she came over as a complete cow, I wonder what Kirsty and Phil thought of her!

When we were house hunting in the early 1990s, after a few years of living in Armed Forces married quarters,  I made up a list of must haves, must nots, and compromises.

The 'nots' list included a loo by the front door, and stairs leading directly from the living room.
The 'must' list included a utility room (kitty litter tray for the use of).

We had to compromise by buying a 4 bed instead of a 3 bed in order to get the utility room - but the additional downstairs space (and extra hobby room) means that we are still in our 'forever' home.

Construction type - we wouldn't buy timber framed.
    Closeness to a school - a no-no for us.

    Filters for:

    Corner baths
    Carpeted kitchen/bathroom
    Number of different wallpaper patterns
    Animals currently residing
    Scary looking dolls
Pets buried in a bag for life

None of these would help me find a dream home, but I could find a lot more properties for the 'have a look at this...' thread  ;)

Tesco didn't have a large enough bag, but about 18 months in we had a visit from the council 'to inspect the horse burials.'
This was news to us, but apparently the officer responsible retired before getting to the bottom of his in-tray and the horses had been in the ground for between 4 and 6 years...
Anyway, the guy had a map and we checked-out the locations. Nothing to see there, so the box was ticked and we got a copy of the paperwork, just in case.
Later, we discovered our plasterer, a part-time farmer, was the guy who did the digging and burying. According to him, one horse was very large and  the digger couldn't go quite deep enough so one fetlock remained stubbornly waving in the air. This caused great mirth among the numerous onlookers, but I won't go further into what he decided to do about it..... :o
