So original owner took it off....It's amazing how many people just piled in a ripped them off. Guess they got carried away with that unboxing sensation that some seem to suffer from.... :D
If it's the flappy plastic cover then i don't bother with these either. If it's between that and not using the phone then i don't use the phone until i get a decent protector. Right now i'm using my iPhone until i can get this sorted. I've used the flappy plastic protectors and in my opinion they're crap. They mark up so easily.

The Mous case i have - they have these videos of people slamming it on to the floor and dropping off bridges and 75ft cranes with no damage.
Now while i'd like to think that's good enough for my phone, i don't fancy taking my chances so i'll put a screen protector on also.

It's not meant to be a permanent solution, but, it's better than the old bubbly ones and as you say, best replaced with a decent protector if you really want one. I wasn't advocating it be a life choice... :)
As I said earlier, personally, although I use a back case, I never use a screen protector.

    Why is that?

Not trying to sway you or argue the toss one way or another. Obviously i couldn't care less what your personal preference is. It suits you so that's good enough. Just wondered why.

I use a screen protector (tempered glass, or hard plastic, whatever it actually is) for the obvious - i don't want my main screen getting scratched. I've had my iPhone 6S since launch date (2015?) and if i took the case and screen protector off you'd struggle to tell it isn't new. Aside from the screen protector i just generally look after them. Yes i said i've previously dropped my iPhones a few times, i never said i'm perfect.

The only down side i had with the protector which i'm not sure is due to the protector was gaming. When i played a game for a while and my hands would get warm, it was difficult to glide across the screen at times. I was told by others who don't use protectors that they didn't experience this. Maybe it was the protector, maybe not.

I just stop using them way back because they were useless and got bubbles etc and would peel. I had the original iPhone 3G (2008) and the screen protectors really annoyed me. When I moved to the Galaxy S2 (2010) I tried newer screen protectors, but, they continued to annoy and after a couple of months I just ripped it off and have never used one since. S2, S4, S5, S6, S7, S8, Note 9.
Yes I've dropped phones, but never cracked a screen. I never put my phone in a pocket with change or keys, apart from that I just use them as intended. I've still got them all and have checked them all. the S4 and S5 have a couple of minute scratches that can be seen if you search under a lamp, but the others are fine, in fact my wife is still using the S8 daily with no protector.
I only use a back case because the damn things can be a bit slippery without and it keeps the screen off the surface when it's put face down.
I don't deride people who use one, as you say, it's all down to personal preference and I may change in the future depending on what's out there.

I sound like I’m trying to sway you now but just going off the timeframes, have you tried a tempered glass protector or just the flappy plastic?

i know you’re on the Samsungs and mine is an iPhone 6S for this example but I have no bubbles whatsoever. Super easy to apply and works perfectly. Obviously there’s no rounded edges on the 6s and the screen isn’t edge to edge so I don’t know if that’ll cause a problem yet.

What made you switch from the S to the note and which do you prefer? I did look at the note but in the end decided against it.

Went through the initial setup setup process the other day. Didn’t realise you get asked so many security questions on an Android. Bit of an experience. I’ve had to create an email specific for the phone as I wasn’t 100% on how it’d effect my main email account throughout the Google world with all the options I was selecting.

No I've not tried the glass protectors, I've seen them, but still haven't felt the need...
Switched to the note primarily for the S.pen. I used it quite a bit initially and it comes in handy at times. It really is a great all round device, so haven't been disappointed. Not sure I'll go for another one. Thinking of waiting until the new flip phone  matures, however, I'm cooling down on my phone replacement regime, with the Note 9 being so good and it being updated again soon, I could stick with it a while.
I've had no problems with my Gmail account which is used to log into everything Google, including all my Google home stuff, smart lights and speakers etc.

  • When backing the phone up to your Google Drive does it eat in to your 15GB allowance?

part of the setup process said that it didn’t. I don’t know if this is limited to only contacts for example where other areas of the backup will use the 15GB (I can’t imagine photo backup will be unlimited).

I already have a chunk in my main Google Drive account which was another reason I created the secondary email just for the phone. It’d be easier if I could use my main email address but this whole startup process on an Android is new to me. First time I’ve made the jump from the Apple world.

Glass screen protectors are great. I was never able to put those old plastic ones on without having tonnes of air bubbles. I've never had any issues applying glass protectors, and it has never interfered with the touchscreen.

Your back up is free and unlimited and doesn't count toward your drive allocation. Photo's are backed up to Google Photos and are all free of your drive space as long as they don't exceed 16 megapixels or 1080p for video. This is more than enough for most people pictures. I find if there is the odd one that I want blowing up to a huge size, I just move it to the drive at original size.

This is getting on my bloody nerves now. Ordered another couple screen protectors as they're advertised as without the hole.

One arrived today, luckily - as it wasn't packaged in anything. Just a postage label stuck on to the screen protector so that it was clear as you like as to what it was.

Opened it up .... hole. Totally not like the listing imagery.
