For £267 i assume an AA van follows you on every journey for the year?

If that could be arranged on renewal with the RAC that would be quite special!

I stumbled across this company, Start Rescue, seem to get good reviews and very low cost with policies starting at around £40 a year:

£267?  For half that I had their top cover with home start and onward travel and hire car etc etc..  AND... It covered my caravan breaking down
    which a standard policy won't.

They increased their prices so I moved to GreenFlag but that policy was still available for around £160.

My dad is with Start Rescue and has had no issues with them. I was thinking about going with them myself.

I'm with StartRescue - have been for years.  Easy to use online interface, they can cover the car or the driver, and they do multiple car policies and discounts.

A few years ago i was with the AA, i had a breakdown and they sent out a third party with a low loader and got me home.  Following year i went with StartRescue for half the price.  Had a breakdown and it was the same company that they sent out to get me.

Open a Nationwide Flexplus account, which costs £13 per month but includes top level European breakdown cover, including at home, also travel insurance and mobile phone insurance included too.

I found RAC to be complete mickey takers when it came to renewal. Their prices were scandalous quite frankly.
I know all companies are guilty of this but RAC were something else.
  • At the risk of offending RAC who at one time were my favourite motoring organisation ever, that is a complete rip off!! Have you tried Groupon by any chance? I have purchased cover policies for my children through that organisation for slightly over £20 including "Home start". One of the names I remember is "Rescuemycar". Only been used to my knowledge once through flat battery, and sorted no problem.
  • Green Flag have always been reasonable on prices for a well established company.  The Big Two are for those who aren’t budget conscious.
