Morning Hypno! Hope you have a good day. I need your advice - is invigilating worth it? I have an application form for the local secondary school, BUT it's only £7/hour AND it's taxed. I'm tempted to do it for the experience and the novelty - do you get to nosy inside the classroom? What would you advise......

The OFT have won the first round of the bank charges case :j :j :j Lets hope that the next stage is also found in our favour!

Seaxwyn, I thoroughly enjoyed the invigilating - easy work for easy money! I would do it again tomorrow if it were available, sadly the first exam week this term is the same week I start my new job!

When you do your accounts at the end of the tax year, if you are under any sort of threshold after all the allowances, you can claim your tax back anyway - that is what I did.

I have not forgotten I owe you some "info" - will put something down today, promise!!

When I got the invigilating work, I just rang up the local high school and asked to speak to the examinations officer who could tell me immediately whether there were vacancies.

They like to have a good number of available invigilators because there are loads and loads of exams at different/clashing times. Lots of the invigilators are retired people who only want to do a couple of sessions a week, so they are always happy to have "younger" people who can cover more hours/be more flexible etc.

As I said, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the money soon added up to be a useful sum. Also, if you get in to do the summer exams, you will prob also get in to do the mocks in the winter term and some GCSE in January too, so always work around!

Thanks Hypno, I'll give it a go, I can always turn down the shifts if I get better paid work. I quite fancy a glimpse inside a secondary school - this is not the one my DDs go to but a more scary one.

Go for it Duchy - ring the schools.

Don't worry too much about the info, Hypno, but if you have any suggestions of a phrase or two I could drop in I would really appreciate it.

    :j Yeah -- all caught up!!!:j

Things do tick along in Hypnoland!!!

OH is incensed that Mr. Hypno had to 'work' while recovering from his surgery, and even more incensed that it was suggested he bingo tonight while watching TV...

OH wants to know if there is a support group for husbands of MSE addicts & has offered to pick Mr. Hypno up for tonight's meeting!

Considering you are three hours away, I suggested he leave straight after dinner and not return until tomorrow morning, well after the free bingo 'window of opportunity' tonight!

Off to read Seaxwyn's thread on claiming bits of the house for tax returns -- hopefully it will mean more of a rebate!

rtandon - just read that out to OH who agrees that it is a hard life being married to an MSE addict......(although he secretly likes doing the free bingo:o )
