Thanks guys! I really do want to get that family debt down as soon as possible - then I can get on with hammering the others and making a REAL difference to the way things are!

I reckon the way you are going Hypno you will be debt free by the end of the year! Can you then get mine down for me :rotfl:

Ouch, that sounds nasty. Have you identified your next target yet?

Gemmz - I have a loan that finishes in August so that will be one that naturally comes to an end, and there is no advantage in trying to pay off the remainder early. So the next "real" target is one of the credit cards.

    We have four cards.....

Egg 1 £4000 26.9% (soon to be closed by egg as part of their current programme)

    Egg 2 £3000 24.9%

MBNA £6000 23.9% but knowing them they will put it up substantially in the next few weeks.

    HSBC £6000 15.9%

So......which one to pay off - Of course the snowball says Egg 1, but I am inclined to do HSBC because they would allow us to do a balance transfer at a low rate (or they would at the moment, what they will do in due course is anyones guess) so if we paid that off we could transfer egg over to it at a lower rate.

Also, we really dislike MBNA, as do most people, and I don't trust them regarding the APR so would like to hit that one too........

    Any comments/ideas gratefully received.

all the other debts are loans on fixed rates much lower than the cards, so they can take their natural course just now.

Is Egg 2 remaining open? I'd attack MBNA - they are upping their min payment to 5% and like you said, they are sneaking with APRs

Hypno I can't believe how high those rates are. Surely you have cleaned up your credit record enough now to apply for a new card? I can't understand why you are always turned down!
    Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.62

  • Hiya Hypno, are both ur Eggs gonna be closed? I'd definately go for paying the MBNA first if u think you will get a better BT rate.... no point hurrying to take advantage of Egg.... and if MBNA do increase the interest rate, that would be the one to snowball anyways.....
