I can't say for definite but when I registered for online banking last year after opening a current account it recognised my credit card that I've held for around ten years and tied the two together under the same customer number.  Both current account and credit card show in online banking.

    Thanks for the info kaMelo.
I assume you applied for your current account via a desktop browser, then your new account details / welcome pack came through the post, including debit card and telephone banking if applicable?  Then you registered for online banking?  Or was this done as part of opening your current account?

This is usually the case for Barclaycard providing all the personal information matches exactly between the Barclays and Barclaycard profiles, but I am almost certain in the OP’s situation their savings account won’t just appear automatically in online banking if they apply online as a new customer without logging into online banking.

Just to double check OP is your cash card still valid, active and not expired?

    Thanks mab3000
I'm sure the card's still active and within expiry date

And this is the reason why I'm hesitant to apply for a CA first without getting online banking sorted first.

You assume correctly, done via a desktop browser and I registered for online/telephone banking at the same time. If I remember correctly I could only get basic access initially, a kind of read only mode. I had to wait for a verification code through the post to get full access. I certainly wasn't logged in to my barclaycard account when I applied and registered. In fact I've just tried to log in through the barclaycard login and it still works, as I expected to be honest but thought I'd try it.
Only the credit card is showing here, again as I would expect really.

Thanks for the update kaMelo.  However, as mab3000 mentioned, I think it maybe due to Barclaycard.  It might be different for bank / savings accounts.

I wonder if anyone else can share their experiences?

Other than going to branch to get an activation code (which can't be done now), the only other option is to try get through on the phone.  Would their ATM issue an activation code does anyone know?

No, the ATM won’t issue an activation code for online banking, only for mobile banking.

What phone number are you trying to call to get through to Barclays btw? The number for their online banking help desk? Or the general telephone banking number?

As per the error code message when I try to register, it suggests I call 0345 600 2323.  This is their 'Barclays Digital Helpdesk', but when I go through the options and enter in the savings account number and sort code, I'm put into a queue for telephone banking team as I think they need to further verify my ID.

Not sure whether if I was setup for telephone banking that I'd be put through directly to the relevant team?

Their registration is a bit confusing though, unless I'm misinterpreting?

On the first page of the registration page, it states:

    You can register if you

    • Live in the UK
    • Are 16 or older
    • Have a Barclays current or savings account with a bank card, or a Barclays mortgage
So tick to all three above, but on the second page, it states on the account type tooltip (which I only noticed late last night):

    Current account

This is the type of Online Banking registration most people have.

Choose this option if you have at least one current account with us. You can also have other types of accounts in addition to your current account, including savings accounts and mortgages.

    Mortgage

If you only have a mortgage with us, choose this option.

This means you don't have any type of current account with us. If your mortgage arrangement came with a mortgage current account, you'll need to choose the 'current account' option.

So with the above in mind, it looks like you need to have a current account with them in order to register for online banking (assuming no mortgage)?  And that you could only then use your saving account details to register (provided you have a current account in the same name as your savings account?).

Maybe try and contact the general customer service line, the number on the back of your card, and pretend you are calling for a more basic query. When you get through to someone, say you want to register for online banking, rather than you are having problems registering for it. Setting up a new online banking membership is a pretty simple thing that can be dealt with through front line staff handling general queries.

Regarding your last post, I’m not really sure what this information relates to, but you absolutely can have online banking only having a savings account, you just can’t have the mobile banking app without having a current account.
