Barclays Savings Account - Online Banking Registration?

I've been experiencing issures trying to register for online banking for a savings accounts.  Don't have a current account, so just wondered if anyone has successfully registered for Barclays online banking with only their savings account details?

Or it could be an issue for me?

When you say online banking, do you mean online banking through their website, or using the mobile banking app on your phone or tablet? 

To register for online banking, there is a section you can click on to register, but says you need to have a card linked to your savings account, even if it’s just a savings cash card. If you don’t, you may be able to get a membership set up by calling them or going into branch. 

If you are trying to register for the mobile banking app, you need to have a current account with them to register as far as I am aware.

Trying to register through their website with Firefox.  Have also tried on fresh install.

I've used the 16 digits on the cash card associated with the savings account, but to no avail.

As far as I know, you'll also need a sort code.

Have entered all required details such as personal details and of course sort code from savings account.

Trying to get through but now over 2 hours on the phone!!!!

Why the urgent need to have online facilities for a savings account?

Will it not wait for a few months?

To view what's come in and logic is that it will be easier to apply for a current account. 

Could apply for current account with the hope online banking facilities will follow through, but not sure if existing accounts will show?

I am almost certain that the savings account won’t show up if you apply for a current account through the app or online without logging into an existing online membership. Doing this will most likely set you up a new customer record and the savings account will be in a different customer record. They would be able to merge the records together but you would need to contact them to do this...

This is exactly the scenario I wish to avoid.

Thanks error code is 74.  I've made enquires and have cleared cache, cookies etc and even on a fresh installation.  Have also been advised it's a 'temporary' issue and to try again but they can't confirm whether 24, 48 or 72 hours.  I've tried after 72 hours to no avail.

Can't even go into branch to get an activation code for instant registration option.

I wonder if I could get this 8 digit code from their ATM - would anyone know?
