No I've done quite a few now. If you think about it, if they threatened you and you reported that back in your report then they'd prtty much be given the sack there and then.

If I was a store assistant and suspected someone of being a shopper then I sure as hell wouldn't say anything, I'd be acting even MOOOORE helpful and being extra polite rather than the other way round.

It's not something that I have ever heard happen so don't worry hun :)
  • cool just sent off my form see how it goes.
  • i cant log in to gap, im wondering if they've booted me as I havet answered any of their recent calls??
  • Ive a q?
I am doing a gym MS at the moment and it finishes end of Feb and my membership will be cancelled if I wish, which I do as it is to much for me to afford every month but I was wondering - I want to join the gym for 3 months as I am loving it and they do a 3 month contract however if I go to join it will look strange rejoining a gym that I only joined beginning of Feb. Also after Feb they will reintroduce a £100 joining fee that they waviered in Feb - is there any way I can get around paying this as I did actually join in Feb but it wasnt for real? (you understand??)
I don't know if these places are told they are being MS or not and what should I say if they quiz me on why my membership was cancelled as I cannot cancel it as it is a 12 month contract.
Gosh its all so complicated!!!

Oh all very confusing. I did a gym one of these but did leave afterwards as I didn't want to stay. But you have to think that when the receive the report through they will figure out it is you as the mystery shopper. All they have to do it look at the one on one session etc and it is easily worked out. Saying that in 3 months time you are able to do the mystery shop for them again anyway.

has anyone had any bad experiences doing mystery shopping i.e. been threatened if they have been rumbled etc.

    This is my best story:

I used to work for a company that did mobile phone shops. I used to do all the shops in my area in week 1, then do all the shops in the area south of me in week 2.

Week 1 was buying a contract phone for yourself scenario. So off I went to Newcastle and I went through the sales patter and to be fair he was an excellent salesman and he did offer a really good deal, and threw in some freebies to try and tempt me, but I had to keep saying no. Luckily in this call we talked about work and I said I was a merchandiser who travelled all over the north east for work.

Week 2 was buying a PAYG phone for yourself scenario. I was browsing the Middlesbrough store which is about 40 miles away from Newcastle, when a voice said "oooh hello, what are you doing here!" It was the same bloke! Quick think on my feet time, and I said I had a merchandising job in Debenhams (which I'd walked past on the way to the shop!) and I was filling in time because the staff member I needed to see had gone on her break. Obviously I couldn't say I now wanted a PAYG phone, so I had to tweak the scenario and say my brother's works had just banned them from making personal calls so I thought I'd get him a PAYG phone for his birthday! Went through the sales patter and again I was offered a brilliant deal that I had to say no to. Then he started asking what was wrong with my deal. Luckily I'd also been to a competitor mobile phone shop who did offer a better deal, so I was all clued up about that one and said I shopped elsewhere. Then the area manager came over and said the gentleman was one of his best salesmen so I had to go through the whole turning down two mobile phone deals with him too.

During the sales patter I casually asked the man why he was in the two different branches. He said he was based in Stockton store, but he moves around to cover when people are absent.

I was supposed to be going onto the Hartlepool store and due to do Stockton later that week. I had to ring the company and say scrap the plans, I'm going to Stockton now so I don't get the same bloke again!

And somehow I was never reported as being spotted :rotfl:

Just thought I'd post that for the newbies, so it gives you an idea of how you have to think on your feet sometimes to rescue a scenario and get enough stuff out of it to write a decent report.
Here I go again on my own....

becles - that made me laugh, well done. what a coincidence though, all that way way and all the stores aorund you had to met the same person.

While I am here, just want to ask, i have joined a few companies but want to join a least one more, so far i am with:
GAP - Retail Eyes : I like the way you can chose the jobs right away & the reporting is straight forward, have done quite a few jobs.
Also joined Bare - Grassroots : not done a single job for either and find Bare website awful and hate the job selection method.
Anyone recommendations on (would like to be self employed), I live in a major city and would like to do any kind of jobs - clothes, supermarkets. Thanks for reading this.

How funny is that - exactly the same has happened to me - except the guy that I kept seeing was a company hopper and not just a branch one!

I went to one company and got served by this guy which was fine, then a matter of about 2 weeks later in a different town and a different company(!) I saw him again - I had to make a million lies up to excuse myself for still looking for a phone but with different requirements!

I then saw him again in another branch of the same company as the second one but this time through the window - I cancelled the visit with the MSing company and that was the last one I did...

As a MSer you become quite an astute liar but the phone shops require just that little bit too much of it for my liking!

Have you ever tried lying for two hours in a mortgage interview and then making sure you sign the correct wrong name?

    No!

Sounds great... Although I'd never give false details in a bank (unless it's a chat only) as I know what the consequences are and so does another MSer on this thread!
