Maximising income - Mystery Shopping? Surveys? (Part Three)

Aaaarrrggghhhh im trying to fill out my tax return for the financial year just gone and im getting a bit confused. Ive never done one before and im a bit confused by all the businessy gargon.
On the self employment (short) form theres are my questions :
Section 8 - My turnover - Is this the total money i recieved from mystery shopping companies, including all fees and reimbursements ??
Section 10 - Cost of goods bought - Is this where i put the total i have spent on purchases i have had to make as per the mystery shopping job instructions??
Section 20 - Net Profit - This is the final amount that i have made with mileage (at 40p/mile) and paperwork (at 6p/sheet) taken off - comes out at a very small amount.
Section 24 - Goods or services for my own use - Do i have to put the total cost of all my purchases that i have had to make for the jobs here ?? I dont think i have to put this here as they were things i had to buy for the job yet my hubby thinks i have to declare all my purchases as although i had to buy them, they are all for my own use.
Thank you very much in advance as i know some of you clever people will be able to answer my questions.

AFAIK you seem to be along the right lines; IMO Section 20 should be turnover - mileage - cost of goods - printing costs - all other expenses (bus fares, phone bills, cost of envelopes, parking costs etc.)
Section 24 - I think this is what was discussed a few pages back in the thread; i.e. you had to buy the goods to receive payment for the job, does that make it an expense or not, since you used it? Personally I will be putting zero on this section, but I suspect some may put down things they've used within this section.
N.B. This is just my opinion on it; probably best to wait for someone more knowledgable to come along!0 -
What a day! I got accepted by GFK and checked online to find an online bingo job available. Very pleased, then I read further and realised I couldn't do it as I'm already a member. What a shame!
So I then filled in the incredibly laborious TNS application questionnaire - boy did it go on? By the time I'd done I felt like banging my head on a brick wall.........
Went and checked GFK again a telephone call was available for me. This time all was ok and I'm doing it on Thursday. Gives me plenty of time to go through the questionnaire. I'm nervous and excited already lolClique member no 1.:D0 -
Can anyone tell me if RE do any pub jobs that dont require you buying a real ale? I've been looking for a couple of weeks but they all seem to want it, thanks.

Your right the TNS one is lengthy but worth it. Try the Tern application to. You do a "trial" MS. Are you one of the ones I put a recommendation to GfK about bingo jobs. I am doing 3 of the online ones tommorow. After my 1st day in Asda!
Hi Hollypear,
Good luck with your job tomorrow! I know you'll be fine
I was going to email you my assessor no when I got it (which was today) so you can refer me re bingo. I'm the one thats been ill and fancy going to bingo again! I'll probably do it after my 1st assignment though so I have the hang of things a little first.
Hopefully there will be some more online bingo ones available for other companies as I'd like to do those too.16 x Sanyo HIT 240w panels, 3.84kWp, south facing, 30 degree slope in the SW, 4.4 Eltek HE-t inverter installed 27/03/120 -
Hi
Can someone help me with a job I have to do today. Its one where you have to send something special delivery. The instructions say "you should not provide any information voluntarily" so if I say I want to post something and the member of staff just says that will be £XX for first class am I supposed to just send it first class or am I supposed to say actually can I send it special delivery? I would email the ms company but doubt I would get a response from them.

Yes

Yes - although this should include all your expenses (i.e. printing, mileage) if you're only doing the short version (i.e. 3-4 boxes)
Section 20 - Net Profit - This is the final amount that i have made with mileage (at 40p/mile) and paperwork (at 6p/sheet) taken off - comes out at a very small amount.
Yep - this is your total income less your total expenses
Section 24 - Goods or services for my own use - Do i have to put the total cost of all my purchases that i have had to make for the jobs here ?? I dont think i have to put this here as they were things i had to buy for the job yet my hubby thinks i have to declare all my purchases as although i had to buy them, they are all for my own use.
This is the sticky bit - you should declare anything you took for your personal use, generally from supermarket jobs or similar, but as per our conversation a page or 2 back, my view is that spending the money's a requirement of the job and therefore as long as you're not claiming more than the minimum as an expense, you shouldn't have to put anything in this box.
Thank you very much in advance as i know some of you clever people will be able to answer my questions.
