Many companies are asking staff to take a certain amount of annual leave while on furlough anyway so they don't end up with empty offices 5 minutes after everyone comes back (+ other budgetting reasons). If you're accruing annual leave and not being asked to take it, thank your lucky stars as you'll still have it available.

dhjb said:I am not going now but in a few months . So the answer is yes I can go without taking my annual leave ? Surely they cant expect everyone to stay locked at home from March till October .
So you're expecting to still be on furlough in October? With more businesses opening every week, you could be called back to work any time from now.

Not necessarily. If you work at an airport and have been furloughed it's quite likely UK trips will be possible before you are asked to return to work. The government guidance has indicated that some UK trips may be possible from July onwards, at the same time as they are saying summer holidays aboard are unlikely.whizzywoo said:When we are allowed to go on holiday, whether in the UK or abroad, nobody is going to be on furlough including you @dhjb0 -

Can I go on holidays whilst being on furlough without using my annual leave and informing the employer ? How would they find out if I don't request annual leave and keep the annual leave for another time later in the year . While being on furlough no one is checking on me and I am thinking it doesn't matter if I spend a week at the Peak district or 2 weeks in the beach . Isn't this my personal time ?With that attitude why are you even asking? As you have already answered your question you don't care as nobody checking on you. Although I doubt many employment solicitors will be able to help you if your company find out and then make dismiss you for taking unauthorised holidays.

This is classic chicken and egg.
Once we get to the point of UK holidays being allowed, all accomodation sites open, chances are you'll have already been recalled to work, or been laid off permanently.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)0 -
