Hi all,
Currently coming to the end this month of my BT superfast fibre hailo 1 deal and have phoned up twice, been offered same deal for £34.99 and to move to just superfast fibre 1 for £27.99. However, i see plusnet and nowtv are cheaper at £25 or less but doesn't seem like BT are willing to lower the price, even though I've told them i'm happy to move to a 36mb unlimited connection a I've only ever got 33/34mb speeds anyway. I usually also pay line rental up front but didn't when it ran out last Dec. so decided to wait till package ran out to see if renewed or not plus other companies are 12 or 18 month contracts, whereas BT are 24 months now.
Has anyone been able to get a lower price? I've been with them for 5 years now and seems no discount etc for loyalty. I'm considering moving but my BT line has been god, no outages etc so i'm hesitant to move and find i have connection issues or frequent drops etc.
Thanks
Kev

I've so far phoned up and chosen option 3 to renew, do you think i'd get further with option 5 - considering leaving?
Thanks

You will be taking essentially the same BT line with you .Always worth pricing up others and telling BT you want to leave as you can get xxx .BUT have you now renewed ??Discount for loyalty nope not since MSE said don't be loyal .0

No, I've not renewed. I phoned them to get an idea of renewal prices and what offers i could get and I've told them i'd think about it as my contact hasn't run out yet but will by end of May so hence my post
Yes, i figured BT line will be the same but connected to another companies infrastructure i'd imagine and obviously I would be issued with another companies router which may or may not be as good. Admittedly, could always purchase a different router but that's an additional cost to factor in. At present have BT Smart hub 6.
Should i try going through to option 5 - thinking of leaving BT? Only gone to renewing package option 3 on the phone at present.

Phone retentions 0800 783 1401 and say that you are thinking about switching to Shell Energy 35Mb fibre via MSE price after new customer incentives equates to '£18.82/mth. ask what best price they will give for you to stay with them for another 24 months

Thanks, will give them a call on Tuesday and see what they say. Even without the MSE discount, looks like it is still cheaper at £22.99/month.

My renewal is 24 July, approach I suggested is what I will do, always good to see what outcomes others get, I only need lowest possible Fibre speed, no addons.Might as well say planning to switch to this offer Vodafone 63Mb fibre - equates to £19.83 after new customer incentive via Broadband Choices

Thanks, yes will report back with an update. I too only need 36Mb speeds as max I can get it seems is 33/34Mb max so 36Mb is fine for me, I don't have TV or anything. All i do have is the caller display option and I have a land line and usually pay line rental up front for the year so keeps monthly costs down.
I am wondering if its because I don't have TV etc, they don't seem keen to offer me a lower suitable price as they realise they wont be getting much cash out of me
Will let you know once I've phoned them on Tuesday.
Thanks

fwiw, a friend was on phone to BT for 40 minutes back in early April. They had Superfast 2 on Halo 1 and out of contract (no price rise due to Halo 1). They eventually offered £7 for Fibre 1 plus line rental, and £5 for 500mins of calls. Same as new customer deal.
Historically, if BT won't offer anything better, you may have to place an order with another ISP. Then if you are lucky, wait a day or two for BT to receive telephone number transfer request. Then BT will try phoning you to persuade you to stay offering a better deal. Due to lockdown, you may not get a call from BT though if call centres are short staffed.2 -
Thanks, yes my Mum was with BT for her mobile phone only and when we saw a better deal elsewhere, we applied and transferred the number, then BT phoned to try and persuade her to stay but they still couldn't match other provider so we carried on a switched. I thought about doing that and then maybe cancelling the switch within 14 days to see if BT would then call but as you say in current climate, they may not have the time to phone all customers, which is why I would of thought they would be pulling out all the stops so to speak to match other providers offers just so they can effectively guarantee your custom for 24 months as they must be aware lots of people being put out of work/furloughed etc so surely some income is better than none or people defaulting as unable to pay.
Will try retention's tomorrow and try and get them to price match Vodafone/SSE/Plusnet/Now TV offers as its more than 1 supplier offering a cheaper deal, and not like brand new suppliers who you would be naturally weary of or a unknown company,

Hi all,
Just got off the phone with BT retentions, I advised i didn't need any inclusive calls and was happy to move off the halo 1 package i had as i couldn't get the speeds as the max I can get is 33-35mb tops so would be happy with a Fibre 36mb connection. The price i was paying is the lowest they can do for Halo 1 but as was happy to move off it, they have now moved me to a super fast Fibre 1 package for £23.99 a month which is much nearer the £22-£23 cheapest deal (ignoring any cash back etc) and it also saves me needing to switch providers and potentially have a worse performance either from drop outs or due to another providers router/wifi not being as good.
I also paid my line rental up front for 12 months, which has in turn reduced my monthly payments to £4 a monthPackage is 24 months so after 12 months, i'll contact them to renew my line rental again for another 12 months and this way at least line rental and broadband run out the same time. Unlike my current plan, whereby the price will remain the same when it ends, if I don't renew before it ends, the price will go up to £31.99 a month (assuming no line rental is paid up front) so i'll obviously be renewing before it runs out.
Thanks for all the help! Feeling much better now as opposed to the thought of paying almost £28 or more for just fibre internet at 36mb.
