Hi,
I'm sorry if there has been a thread on this, i've had a look but can only seem to find posts linking to their prices not legal stuff.
Hoping someone can give some advice.
Basically we are purchasing a new Persimmon home where we have been told they are providing Fibrenest. We are by no means tech savvy when it comes to internet/phone systems e.t.c but we have been trying to do our research on it.
We've called Fibrenest who have told us they provide a phone line but it runs through the internet, meaning Voip. They've said they don't offer an analogue phone system. The problem I have is that I work from home and have spoken to my employer about this but the systems they use don't support Voip and need to be run over an analogue system. We called BT who said they would be able to put one in but we've read a lot online about Persimmon not letting anyone else like BT/openreach on sites. We've spoken to our solicitor about this and she's asked the legal/technical team from Persimmon to contact us to discuss this. Just wondering if anyone has been in this situation before who can shed some light on the situation or offer any advice.
Many thanks.

I have this type in my home, your 'home phone' is VoIP but is an end point. On my Virgin box there is a normal 'BT style' phone socket for a standard home phone.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.0 -
Yes site exclusive persimmion has been mentioned in the press .
Persimmion own the cabling and Fibernest as far as i am aware .Not sure how many years you are locked in for as BT dont own the infrastructure on your site .BT OR by law have to allow access but doubt if Fibernest have to .Me i would not buy this property .1 -
Thank you for your replies. The annoying thing is the house we want is on Phase 2 of the development. Phase 1 aren't restricted to this Fibrenest and therefore can have a normal phone line. The nearest Phase 1 house is literally about 50 yards away.0

What systems do you use for work that don't work with VOIP? Things like fax and modems don't always play well with VOIP. You would need an analogue adapter to use a normal landline phone with VOIP - either built into the ISP's router, or a standalone one which connects to the router. The analogue adapter would need to be configured to work with the VOIP service provider.0

OP, I'm not sure what the issue is. You will be getting full fat fibre internet (FTTP) provided through Persimmon - be very very grateful than Openreach didn't decide to install copper, as you could have ended up on p1$$ poor adsl speeds of 2 Mbps.
Re: Voip, you don't need to worry about technicalities. For your voice service, plug any analogue phone into the Fibrenest hub/router and it will work just like any voice service. You'll be given a local STD code for your voice service.
"Our great value voice service is available with or without our broadband service. With competitive rates and seven great features, you can keep talking to your friends, family and loved ones for less. You just need a standard telephone handset to use the service which connects directly into your FibreNest Hub."

Yes but how long are they tied to this one single provider ??At least with Or FTTP you have some choice of ISPs to use .Wonder has OP got a price for this service .0

Yeah it seems FibreNest is Persimmon's own ISP so at present, you have no choice but to use their network as Persimmon haven't wholesale'd out their network like Openreach have. But on the other hand, their prices seem to be reasonably competive starting at £13/m for 10 Mbps all the way up to £45/m for 500 Mbps. I suspect most customers will opt for the 75 Mbps service @ £30/m which seems a fair price for a fairly fast connection.

When the roads and footpaths are adopted by the local council ( typically a couple of years after the site is finished) then other utilities have rights and obligations under the NRSWA , but until then the developer owns the ‘site’ , and if they don’t want to allow others in , they don’t have to, this means you are ‘stuck’ with whoever Persimmon have an arrangement with , or mobile broadband/telephony...if your employers system cannot use what Fibrenest supply then you stuck.
If in a couple of years OR ( or VM or an altnet) want to provide infrastructure they can , but obviously that would mean excavations etc for new boxes, duct and fibre cables0 -
Still curious what "systems" the OP uses that won't work over VOIP.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230

I’m curious about the voip offering, they are looking to charge £4.99 per month plus a charge for calls. I thought the idea of voip was that it was free?0
