When we had problems getting a fault diagnosed by the  dealership  my husband contacted the manufacturers technical department direct. He also wrote a formal complaint using the dealership complaint's process. 
The fault was eventually diagnosed when another car in another dealership had the same fault and somehow they were able to quickly diagnose what our garage couldn't. 
 It took18 months but we got there in the end.
