You don't learn all about plumbing overnight or by watching a boiler being fitted. You pick it up over time, lots of practice, some mistakes, by reading a lot & nowadays watching lots of YouTube.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

I'd start with asking the person/persons who are doing the final terminations and fitting  the the boiler to see if they are happy with what you plan to do.
I'll be doing the final terminations.  I'll do everything except the boiler gas installation.  I'll get a plumber type in to give me a quote for a boiler and try and learn as much as I can while they're here.
Do you mean you'll do everything except the gas boiler installation?

Unless you're gas safe registered which clearly you aren't then you shouldn't be removing the cover from the boiler.

So what you actually need need is someone to come in an fit the combi. Following that you will do ever else?

I don't expect they'll be too happy with you standing over them all day watching.
I mean I'll do everything except the gas connection on the gas boiler.
What's the difference between plumbing a water pipe to a radiator and plumbing a water pipe to a boiler?
I said I'd try and learn as much as I can while they're giving me a quote.  I won't stand over them watching them work.

Yep, hence my questions. I'm trying to start learning.
  • 1. If a new gas line is required, don't run it yourself, the installer should do it.  If using the existing gas line, leave it to the installer to cut into it at an appropriate point and run the line from there to the new boiler.
    2. Leave the installation of the boiler wall plate to the installer so that he / she can be sure it is adequately supported.
    3. Leave the flue to the installer.
    4. The condensate drain is part of the flueing arrangements.  Leave it to the installer.
    5. Be prepared for the installer to charge you for any time he / she spends in excess of budget fixing any problems in work they haven't done.

-Radiators are all way too small
Have you worked out how many BTU's they are and what you actually need for the room? Are they all hot, top and bottom?

    -Immersion heater

They take up space but are great when the boiler breaks down and you still have hot water.

Good luck finding a gas engineer to even touch a half hung boiler.

Yep, they were all way too small. They all got hot but they didn't warm up the rooms because they weren't big enough.
I've replaced them all now with bigger ones and decent pipework that doesn't leak.
