My car is near the end of its life and not sure it'd make it through another MOT so a extra 6 months really helps me out, thanks Boris1

Umm, you do know that means it almost certainly isn't legal to drive, right...? Because it isn't roadworthy...?master_blaster_44 said:My car is near the end of its life and not sure it'd make it through another MOT so a extra 6 months really helps me out, thanks Boris
"No MOT" is non-endorsable, minor fine.
"Unroadworthy" is serious points and fine, not hard to get into ban territory depending on just how bad.0 -
Shouldn't be on the road then should it?master_blaster_44 said:My car is near the end of its life and not sure it'd make it through another MOT so a extra 6 months really helps me out, thanks Boris

My car is due it's first MOT at the end of June. The DVSA site says it has no MOT record for the car (as it hasn't had an MOT yet). Will the first MOT due date now be December instead of June?

The infection rate should be well down in another 4 weeks if the government are right. Then if it fails on something, it will be a warranty issue unless it is accident damage.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Oh yes fully understand the legal perspective, and around here unless bits are hanging off you're unlikely to get a fine, police have said they dont have the resource to police it, just tell you to get a MOT. I wouldn't say it wasnt roadworthy, everything works, just a few minors last time they may now be majors now, there is an oil leak for instance thats got worse, but i usually put some cardboard under it when parked at home. Anyhow planning on changing it in the next 8-12 months so will probably just risk it, I think all the major things are ok, tyres and brakes etc.AdrianC said:

Oil leak has to be pretty substantial to be a fail... 75mm diameter pool in five minutes. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-private-passenger-and-light-commercial-vehicles/8-nuisance#section-8-4-10 -
I cant check everything, I dont have a ramp, but the bits I can see are ok, just need a bit of duck tape on the rust hole on the wing. I know the oil leak had to be bad, but not that bad so will be ok. Wheel bearing rumbles a bit so might fail on thatAdrianC said:

my car is due for mot on 28th may 2020.checked yesterday and it was still showing mas mot due 28th may.checked today 21st may and it now shows mot due date as 28th november 2020.So the extension of 6 months has updated today ie 7 days before expiry. So i would say thats the norm for extension being applied.& days before expiry date2

Informative thread, thank you.
Many of our fleet are new cars therefore no MOT requirement however we do have a couple of almost classic cars that Pammy and I love to cruise in, we will benefit from the extension.
