Well it's good of you to come on the forum and tell everyone about your crime. Luckily it sounds like nobody was injured. It doesn't sound as though you are going to go to the police station to confess so we can only hope the police catch up with you.
"Possible alleged crime" is perhaps more appropriate. All of which helps the OP no end.

Today thought I was driving in a 40 but turned out it was actually a 30
This is first-few-driving-lessons stuff. You'd fail your test for not knowing the basics like this...

You can ALWAYS tell the speed limit almost instantly, simply by looking out of the windscreen.

Are there repeaters every few hundred metres? No? Then it cannot be a 40. It must be a default limit - 30 or NSL.
    Are there streetlights? Yes?
    Streetlights + no repeaters = 30...

Tomorrow - "What is a carriageway?" or "How to count to two"...

    Or 20mph if it's a designated 20 zone.

Indeed. And if you miss the signage for that...

And it's a limit though most people treat it as a target.

    Unbelievable

Are you without sin?  Is your life be so blameless that it will live up to close forensic scrutiny?

How exactly can people on a forum decipher what the policemans gesture meant? Seriously?

Just wait the 14 days. If nothing arrives in the 14 days, meet the postman every morning (observe social distancing ;) ), and see if he/she will sign & date any suspicious envelope they try to deliver, just in case it is delayed.

Now the roads are slightly less congested, drivers are treating the main roads like the  racetracks  sideroads, and the Police are out with speed traps- I saw one this morning.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

How did he manage this I wonder ??
Did he drop the camera ??
but the guy holding the camera threw both his hands out to his side in a "what  are you doing" manner.
Have you not considered the fact the camera may well have been mounted on a tripod.
No the hand held cameras are not that big he was holding the camera in one hand when he threw his arms out to the side there was no tripod

Might just have been a scarecrow. Sometimes they send out a fake cop to hold a little camera and wave at people they think are going too fast. Cheap and effective.

They aren't actual police, they are just employed by the police and dressed up to look a bit like them. Borderline illegal, impersonating a police officer. You can always stop and ask why they were waving at you. Best to film it if you do.
