Car Insurance Cancelled by Hastings Direct

I insured my car through Hastings Direct via a comparison website. The start date was for 3 weeks in advance. They cancelled the policy 3 days after taking out my policy saying that there were differences in my policy from when I first purchased. There after they sent a message saying "you carried out a number of quotes using different details".

They have taken the money from my bank account and when I rang them they said they are charging me a £20 set up cost even though the policy hasnt started! They accepted my policy and payment and are canceling my policy as I made too many quotes with too many differences. With COVID 19 many people's circumstances have changed or are changing..

They are adamant they will take a cancellation fee.
They should have checked my details before, not taken my money and due to their neglect they are charging me a fee.

Please could someone shed some light on this.

Not only are you out of pocket by £20 but you will have to declare in the future that you have had a policy cancelled , that will cost you a lot more I suspect.

If it’s not even started, how can it have been cancelled?

Mileage is easily covered, job titles has always been a play on words but how do you explain the different home address?

Me and my partner were planning to move out to my flat. I currently live with my mother at her address. Decided not to go ahead due to the current situation!

You can get quotes based on anything. I could say my name is James Bond, im insuring am aston martin, and ovbiously put navy commander as my occupation for quotes on the mercats et al. But when the final insurance gets agreed my details need to be as im insuring. Are they un happy with ypur quotes or you cover because they are 2 very different things.

The final quote is correct in which I took out. I spoke to them again and they said there were differences in the details in different quotes. One being, I put my mother as retired in one and a housewife in the other ( very similar ) and my father was an estate agent last year and now has moved to building work. Some of the quotes showed him to work as an estate agent which he still owns as a business and then others to work as a builder which is also true.

For myself I recently graduated and got a new job so I updated it accordingly. However with comparison websites they save your personal details so i realised some of it was outdated but updated it all to the correct information when taking out my policy!

They tried to reinstate my policy accepting that the differences were little. But I believe the broker could not at this current time.

I have placed a formal complaint with this horrible experience!

The final quote is correct in which I took out.
I'll guess the final quote was also the cheapest?
