Not quite, being a student worked out cheaper than working. In the other circumstances it didn't impact on the price.

They are a horrible company. Charged my SD to cancel a policy that wasn't due to start. Just because it's in their T&Cs doesn't mean it's fair. IMO, until the policy starts, you're not a customer. Anyway, lesson learnt!

Of course you're a customer.
You have given them money and they have provided the service by setting up an insurance policy. Even though the policy may not have started, you are still their customer.

If you paid an airline for a ticket for a flight at a future date, would you say that you are not a customer until you have actually flown?

I quite often quote for vehicles that i have no real intention of buying with details that arent applicable to a real quote. Its nice to dream but are they saying this is now to stop?

I'm not sure if this is for all insurers but Hastings Direct penalised me for it even at the slightest. But it seems like they perhaps made a pricing error on my quote and cancelled without wanting to admit fault. Yesterday I refreshed my quotes on the comparison website with my exact same details and now the same quote from hastings is over £200 more !

£200 more isn't bad considering your circumstances have changed. I would have thought having to declare a cancelled policy they may have declined to quote.
