surely that cant be right. i would be down around 1.5k from what i was expecting..
i thought they where not going to take into account a year where self empolyed profits was less than the paye for that year.

You're right it's not fair. You're yet another victim of a flawed scheme due to the government's decision to use the mean average of any self-employed profits even if they were partial years and so not representative of your typical yearly profits. This could be easily solved if instead of the mean they use the median pofit, and in cases like yours in which there are only 2 years of self-employment tax returns available, take the higher value. Challenge this, spread the word, this needs media attention.
Not sure "victim" is the best word to use when talking about someone being given a bit less free money than they feel entitled to under a scheme that could easily never have been implemented in the first place.
Let's be honest is this going to be free money? Its to help people get by but in the end everyone will be paying it back and alot more with tax hikes etc
There will be very few individuals paying for it. Most people don't pay enough to cover the services provided as is.

The ironic thing is that these bail outs are estimated to cost a similar amount to that of servicing our national debt. The more we borrow, the more interest we need to pay in the future and therefore the less we'll be able to afford. Yet everyones outraged over this one off cost of similar proportion in the current crisis and not the one we're incurring every single year as standard.

    Go figure!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Over their lifetime? Any source or evidence for that?

So far I've had no luck, couldn't get on until early hours last night as it kept resetting all day then I got as far as security questions but I don't have Photo DL, Passport or Credit card.
If I click " can't answer the questions" I just get a page pop up that says "Sorry, there is a problem with the service"
Phoned up this morning but got disconnected  after half hour wait.
Went online using webchat only to be told to phone.
It's a real pain when you don't fit the norm, also I hope they don't ask me to send in a utility bill as they aren't paid by me.

Finally sorted mine out over the phone, seems they know about the verification issue for some.
Easy to do but a little time consuming 40 mins in total mostly waiting.

  • I’m self employed and work on a construction site luckily we have managed to stay open with less people and social distancing, we have cut down from 10hr days to 8hr days and no weekend work , am I still eligible for the scheme ?

Well i wouldnt class 2 hours a day as adversly affected as you get 3 months money.  and if they investigate you then you would probably have to pay it back

The test as to whether you are adversely affected by coronavirus does not take into account the receipt of the grant. That would be absurd. The guidance states:

"Your business could be adversely affected by coronavirus if, for example:

    • you’re unable to work because you:
      • are shielding
      • are self-isolating
      • are on sick leave because of coronavirus
      • have caring responsibilities because of coronavirus
    • you’ve had to scale down or temporarily stop trading because:
      • your supply chain has been interrupted
      • you have fewer or no customers or clients
      • your staff are unable to come in to work"
