We advertised our house last night (put up the old advert from last year). We’ve already had two people asking to view and one person came today. I think people who need to move still need to move and people paying rent still would rather pay a mortgage. We’ll have to see if we get any offers.

Looking forward to having some viewings finally! Our house went on the day of lockdown 🙄 The estate agents have been in touch today asking us if we would like to have viewings now. They've laid out their plans with regards to gloves/hand sanitizer etc. We're fine with it. We'll go out, then when we come back, give door handles and surfaces etc a clean.

    Will banks begin lending again?
Banks are lending at the 75 and 80% LTV levels (I didn't check other levels).
Post Office (Bank of Ireland) are offering mortgages up to 85% LTV.
  • What if I don't want a potentially infected person coming into my (rented) place? Could I argue that is not unduly or unreasonably withholding the right of the Landlord to conduct viewings? Or ask the lettings agent to arrange disinfection of my flat and provide the viewers with face masks, gloves and ask them not to touch anything?
We have a viewing of a house we’ve already had an offer accepted on. We’re to go in one at once. No more than 15 mins. We have to wear masks and gloves. The windows will be open. The cupboard doors will be open and we’re not to touch anything. The place will be cleaned by the EA before and after. We will use hand sanitiser. The vendors will be out.

This is what the government means by ‘use common sense’.
    This is crazy.
    How is it crazy?
How is it safe? I cannot visit my son, or my brother, nor can they visit me, but I can welcome estate agents, &  a stream of strangers passing in and out of my house, and expose us all to infection? People will die because of this decision.

3 weeks til another spike then it's groundhog Day and ppl will just be locked down a bit further down the line and a few quid worse off

3 weeks to a spike because of a few people going viewing some houses, talk about being over dramatic.

I'm sure all viewings will be very carefully controlled. Viewers not touching handles, EA wiping down everything after and wearing masks etc

It’s not a stream of strangers. It’s two people who had already put an offer in based on a virtual viewing. Nobody is saying to let a stream of fandoms through your house. Just serious buyers that are still interested after a virtual viewing.

You’re also significantly more likely to hug, kiss or touch your family than an stream of strangers’ (I hope). Familiarity lulls people into a false sense of security so they are more likely to bend the rules ‘just once’. Also if a type II R surgical mask is worn then no virus gets out if a person was infected. Surgical masks are great at keeping pathogens in, less good at keeping them out, because that’s what they are designed to do.

This viewing was one of the safest interactions I’ve experienced in the last 8 weeks. The vendors went out 2 hours before. The house was aired for an hour before. The estate agent and us wore appropriate ppe. We didn’t touch anything. Everything was cleaned before and after. It’s more than you get at the supermarket. Hysteria doesn’t benefit anybody. A sensible approach and risk mitigation means we can start to adapt to a new reality.

UCL suggested a policy of cycling lockdown and release as a way to contain Covid and keep the economy going. So repeated lockdowns and then release has been offered as a viable plan to contain Covid. It doesn’t automatically mean we have ‘failed’ or ‘extra people are dying’.

If you don’t feel safe doing that nobody is forcing you.

It's also about trying to get people back to work.
Visiting family will not help the economy.
Don't get me wrong I miss my family including my 2 month old Grandson
But I understand that will have to wait
