There's a glitch which means that sometimes people can only see the first page of each subforum.  It does seem to come and go a bit.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Whirlpool will not authorise tradesmen to repair existing machine or install replacement machines during C0-19 which is to be expected. (but they do advise not to wash above 20 Deg C. (Does this absolve them from all responsibility, I'm not sure)
So, to get repair of existing machine or installation of replacement machine you'll have to wait for disappearance of Co-19 or update of government advice (don't hold your breath)
Beware of the Whirlpool recall e-mails and their website they are tending to direct people to accept replacement machines and NOT repair. No idea what they are offering, apparently some people have reluctantly accepted inferior machines already.
I have no idea what will happen I have decided to use the wait option on the email/website. I would prefer repair rather than replacement and I am not sure where I stand at the moment, if they do try to install (after C0-19) an inferior replacement I WILL NOT ACCEPT IT.
All of the above I have managed to determine, eventually, from talking with their special telephone advisors and referring to Whirlpool recall emails and website but they are not completely clear and if you have the misfortune of having to speak with their special telephone advisors set up for this special recall (as I did), beware not all of them are singing from the same sheet they continually trip over each other and contradict each other. and give out incorrect info.
Look at the numbers; if it is going to cost £100 (roughest cheapest minimum, probably will cost more) per each individual customer, it is going to cost them a small fortune. The cheapest way this company can do this is to fob people of with some cheapo washing machines which, by using market forces, they can obtain, which will probably be even cheaper than employing tradesmen to affect repairs.
COMON MARTIN LEWIS!!!!!! this deserves a big inquiry, lots of people are going to lose out here. Whirlpool cannot use the excuse of Hotpoint or Indesit if you buy a company it becomes your responsibility.
If you opt for a new machine, it will offer the basic model. Apparently if you wait and regularly check the page, something else might crop up.
I went for the first one offered because I wasn't aware of this.
The information given with regards to the wash cycles on the replacement is scanty. They tell you you can shorten the wash cycle, but not that that is only an option for a few wash cycles.
The hot washes are very long -3+ hours ish if I remember rightly which some people find difficult.
Which were on the case but didn't get very far.
    My point exactly!

Our replacement is totally inferior to our previous but with a family of 5 we couldn't wait around for a repair, we felt pushed towards the replacement and now totally regret it.

It really does need someone to help us all out.

Does anyone know if there is some ombudsman or something I can take my case too??
  • 2 weeks ago my Whirlpool machine caught fire and had black smoke coming from it. As it was over 3 years old I was annoyed but immediately ordered a new machine (Bosch) from John Lewis. A fews days ago I remembered about the recall and checked my WP (which i still have stored) and started a claim via their website and via Resolver on this site.
As Ive already bought a new machine will I be able to demand a refund rather than a replacement I dont want or need.?
Also when looking at my original purchase receipt from Currys I noticed it is still under their 5 year know-how guarantee which I bought (and forgot about!!) at purchase time. Is there any chance I could get something from that e.g money towards another appliance?

    Read the thread .
    Demand a Refund no.
Currys read the T&C but they probably pass it off to the maker .
