Ive had the letter today and checked and yes my machine needs to be recalled.
If you take the receive a new machine option rather than have the old one fixed do they come and fit it (connect the water supply hoses)?

They have been, but I'm not sure how that's changed with Covid, as mine was before all that kicked off. They set mine up and tested it was working ok.
I'd suggest checking the pipes yourself though because if there's a problem with the supply or the taps it's not their job to fix it.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -

Due to covid they wont come in and fit. We were advised to put ours outside and they picked it up and left the new one on our door....1

Update, just phoned them and was told at present no repairs are taking place and yes you need to leave the old machine outside and you need to fit the new one yourself.
However you can request a new machine and put it on "hold" and then when government guidelines change they will take out the old and fit the new.

That's correct, but what I got told is not to use the recall machine whilst waiting as it is a fire risk, if I was to use it and it did catch fire I wouldnt have any come back to whirlpool as they had officially advised not to use it.... so would have still been waiting 11 weeks on now if I had taken this other new machine which as stated osnt as good as my old one0

Yes we had to opt for the replacement model due to not being able to get a repair date.
The replacement model doesn't have many of the functions of the affected one they took back and it's a smaller load too.
Sorry should have made it clearer1 -
Whirlpool will not authorise tradesmen to repair existing machine or install replacement machines during C0-19 which is to be expected. (but they do advise not to wash above 20 Deg C. (Does this absolve them from all responsibility, I'm not sure)
So, to get repair of existing machine or installation of replacement machine you'll have to wait for disappearance of Co-19 or update of government advice (don't hold your breath)
Beware of the Whirlpool recall e-mails and their website they are tending to direct people to accept replacement machines and NOT repair. No idea what they are offering, apparently some people have reluctantly accepted inferior machines already.
I have no idea what will happen I have decided to use the wait option on the email/website. I would prefer repair rather than replacement and I am not sure where I stand at the moment, if they do try to install (after C0-19) an inferior replacement I WILL NOT ACCEPT IT.
All of the above I have managed to determine, eventually, from talking with their special telephone advisors and referring to Whirlpool recall emails and website but they are not completely clear and if you have the misfortune of having to speak with their special telephone advisors set up for this special recall (as I did), beware not all of them are singing from the same sheet they continually trip over each other and contradict each other. and give out incorrect info.
Look at the numbers; if it is going to cost £100 (roughest cheapest minimum, probably will cost more) per each individual customer, it is going to cost them a small fortune. The cheapest way this company can do this is to fob people of with some cheapo washing machines which, by using market forces, they can obtain, which will probably be even cheaper than employing tradesmen to affect repairs.
COMON MARTIN LEWIS!!!!!! this deserves a big inquiry, lots of people are going to lose out here. Whirlpool cannot use the excuse of Hotpoint or Indesit if you buy a company it becomes your responsibility.

I went for the first one offered because I wasn't aware of this.
The information given with regards to the wash cycles on the replacement is scanty. They tell you you can shorten the wash cycle, but not that that is only an option for a few wash cycles.
The hot washes are very long -3+ hours ish if I remember rightly which some people find difficult.
Which were on the case but didn't get very far.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
