The 14 day "quarantine" rule

You'd think they'd have thought through all this before announcing vague ideas but from the joint statement with Macron given yesterday from no 10 there won't be any quarantine for any travellers to/from France. I would love to know the scientific basis for that but very much doubt there can be any. So you'll be able to go anywhere in world that will have you as long as you fly/travel via Francebagand96 said:
Is the situation with France just for French nationals? Or can everyone just plan to travel through France into the UK to avoid quarantine?Westin said:Butts said:Are the Government not supposed to be "firming up" the details of this and other measures announced by Boris yesterday in the House of Commons today ?
Devil is in the detail (if we get any) as they say !!
That would be nice!
- Currently no introduction date, only “no notice” to be introduced.
- Initially Republic of Ireland the named exception, now it seems after the French made representations, no quarantine for them.
- Announced for arrivals by Air. I guess after questions raised, now also sea and rail arrivals.
Poorly thought out and ‘on notice’ introduction far, far too late.
Like you say, far too late, kneejerk reaction and raises more questions than it solves.

There's going to a working party between the two Governments over the coming weeks. To ensure that steps are taken in tandem. One imagines that it's been released to give people hope of getting away for a break this year. Given that international movement is going to be greatly curtailed. For the French tourism will be a welcome boost. Keep the ferries and euro tunnel operating too. Help Easyjet repay their loan. Given that international movement is going to be greatly curtailed. Dublin must be involved as well.
London is France's 6th largest City. Often overlooked. Wonder if some may return home.

Somebody one another forum suggesting that wantabee travellers to Spain could fly to the south of France, and from there head to the Costas, then return in opposite direction, thereby avoiding UK quarantine.

Looks like France will be treated the same now as other countries.NoodleDoodleMan said:Somebody one another forum suggesting that wantabee travellers to Spain could fly to the south of France, and from there head to the Costas, then return in opposite direction, thereby avoiding UK quarantine.

Korean experts (I am an expat in Korea) are saying a second wave will most likely hit the world in Oct and Nov. Think of this first wave as the pre shocks. The big one is coming.
Spain tested 60,000 people and reckons 5% have had the virus. Looking at actual extra deaths that gives a case fatality rate of 2.2% similar to the 2.3% found in Korea (with similar asymptomatic patients at 30-33%). So assuming herd immunity at 60% Spain has 12x the number of deaths to go. UK similar or more. UK could see 800,000 to 1 million dead before this pandemic is over. US about 5 million dead.
Quarantine is here to stay until c2023 when a vaccine could be expected. Assuming it works as the spike proteins are mutating. Indeed the virus is getting deadlier causing heart attacks and brain damage. We have hardly started having the bad times.

Is France not treated in a different manner because London has a huge ex-pat French Community who need to travel to and fro on a regular basis ?Life__Goes__On said:

"The government has denied that travellers from France will be exempted from the planned coronavirus quarantine measures"
