The 14 day "quarantine" rule

Well yes you would assume tour operators would be proactive and not allow any flights to even go.SevenOfNine said:
Could that come under a "major change" in the provider's T&Cs, so could be refused & entitled to full refund?bradders1983 said:Also havent accounted for any restrictions at the other end. If your holiday is a week and the Spanish (as an example) are ordering people to stay in hotel rooms for 2 weeks, that raises 3 points:
1 - is that even a "holiday"?
2 - who pays for the extra week?
3- will the travel companies even bother flying people there in the first place?
As for flight only and hotel only bookings, it will be rather different0 -
Are the Government not supposed to be "firming up" the details of this and other measures announced by Boris yesterday in the House of Commons today ?
Devil is in the detail (if we get any) as they say !!0 -
I assume its just the changes to the lockdown measures in the document today.Butts said:Are the Government not supposed to be "firming up" the details of this and other measures announced by Boris yesterday in the House of Commons today ?

As for the quarantine thing, if there is any truth in this it will anger a lot of people...

I don't know they are going to police this 'quarantine'.How will they know if Joe Bloggs returning from a week in Benidorm to his village in Cumbria is observing quarantine rules or is popping up to his local One-stop?I read on Tripadvisor that Australia had a 14 days self isolation rule on entry. On one day the police did spot checks of 100 persons in Melbourne who were to be self isolating.75 were where they were supposed to be.Of the other 25, ten were given warnings as they claimed they had problems with speaking English or it was their second language or misunderstood .Ten others were fined $1600 dollars when found. The last five had given false addresses and still no one knows where they are.Do we think it will be any better here?

I assume they will be relying on the good old practice of "dobbing in".
So this will just result in people telling work colleagues they arent having a week off to go abroad, they are just staying at home for a week. Etc.1 -
What's the first thing most people need to do when they return from holiday??
Go and do a big shop of course!!!
Especially if you're supposed to then go into 14 day quarantine!!!
Doh!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Surely the primary concern should be about the destination not the arrival home. This after all a global pandemic. Lifting of international restrictions is going to be a long drawn out process.0

I usually do an online shop for when I come back …..though if I could get a slot now I'd be amazed!Sea_Shell said:What's the first thing most people need to do when they return from holiday??

That would be nice!
- Currently no introduction date, only “no notice” to be introduced.
- Initially Republic of Ireland the named exception, now it seems after the French made representations, no quarantine for them.
- Announced for arrivals by Air. I guess after questions raised, now also sea and rail arrivals.
Poorly thought out and ‘on notice’ introduction far, far too late.0 -
Is the situation with France just for French nationals? Or can everyone just plan to travel through France into the UK to avoid quarantine?Westin said:Butts said:Are the Government not supposed to be "firming up" the details of this and other measures announced by Boris yesterday in the House of Commons today ?

Like you say, far too late, kneejerk reaction and raises more questions than it solves.1
