The 14 day "quarantine" rule

Quarantine in inverted commas because it isnt as such, its merely telling people to stay at home for 14 days.
Worthy of its own thread as it will have wide ranging implications.
How long will it last? Are package holiday providers going to cancel holidays on the back of it or are they going to expect people to have to effectively take 3 weeks off work for one weeks holiday? Will insurance cover you if you decide not to go as effectively its a disinclination to travel?
And how are they actually intending to enforce it?
Post your thoughts.

I don't think anyone, including the UK Government, know the answers to any of those questions.
The travel industry at large are attempting to engage with the Government to raise their thoughts and concerns, indeed raising many of the same points that you have raised yourself.
There is a school of thought that it's a little bit of saving face, in light that many countries are expected to introduce such measure for British people arriving overseas.0 -
As someone who works in a school and is due to go on holiday in October half term I follow this with interest. I do hope there is some much needed clarity soon!0

That is my next holiday as well (have lost my April and August ones), further complicated by the fact we are doing back to back city breaks in 2 different countries 🙈🤦♂️Mrsn said:As someone who works in a school and is due to go on holiday in October half term I follow this with interest. Thanks for heads up from other forum. The schools holidays issue hadn't occurred until reading above - we are (hopefully) meeting up with family in a hotel this October in the Canaries. These self isolating scenarios will mean them at home for a fortnight upon return - likewise their mother who is in education.I can't see their school and/or her employing local authority being sympathetic.0

Also havent accounted for any restrictions at the other end. If your holiday is a week and the Spanish (as an example) are ordering people to stay in hotel rooms for 2 weeks, that raises 3 points:
1 - is that even a "holiday"?
2 - who pays for the extra week?
3- will the travel companies even bother flying people there in the first place?2 -
Having booked holidays for August and October, really considering cancelling August one as can’t afford to use 5 weeks holiday for one week! Having said that has anyone managed to claim back their money for airport lounge and fast track security please? Not sure if the best thing to do really but Jet2 along with other companies don’t seem to be refunding! Any advice would be great0

Travel companies are going in date order with cancellations. In any case, the government hasnt officially released any details about this quarantine thing yet so nobody will be canceling anything until they do.0

We've got holidays booked for August and October. I work in a school so 2 weeks quarantine would be an issue but I can't afford to cancel a holiday that's cost me over 4K!0

If the Government doesn't lift the "essential travel" advice, then from 28 days prior to travel (8 Sept) our insurance covers us for cancelling ourselves, so it wouldn't be "disinclination". Assuming the operator is able to fully supply the package holiday of course.
I suppose that does/doesn't will vary from one insurer to the next?
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
Could that come under a "major change" in the provider's T&Cs, so could be refused & entitled to full refund?bradders1983 said:Also havent accounted for any restrictions at the other end.
