    Many people are working.
Many people don't have shops within walking distance.
Yet the price of oil has dropped significantly due to lack of demand.
I'm sure I'd seen a claim that as much as 25% of the workforce was furloughed, and I haven't seen any figures on how many are working from home.

    Yes.

Though that still implies up to 75% of people are still working, and many of us dont live within walking distance of a shop.

According to Honest John - used car prices have increased in the last few months
This implies that it could be a good move to sell a used car, now and purchase a new car in a few months time ?
and drive what in the meantime?
To go where? I'm not sure I've done more than a handful of journeys I couldn't have done on foot.
I havent stopped working. over 100 miles most days, roads have been very quiet until this week, with yesterday being by far the busiest
And today even worse, id say near normal levels of traffic in central lobdon.

I suspect if people aren't doing things like school runs, lots of visiting and only shop weekly (if it's not getting delivered), they may start to realise how expensive cars are for the mileage done. It's almost certainly cheaper for me at the moment to get a taxi to the shops and back twice a week than to maintain a car.

I know of one Humber Ports dock which has thousands of cars, in the open but covered in preservative material. There are probably other docks and other ports. They don't get a Registration Plate whilst they sit there.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Fairly reasonable i'd have thought.  When lockdown came dealers werent open to take the cars to, and distributors closed also.

They'll move them again as soon as they can

Maybe.  But most people will be going back to work at some point, and maybe some point relatively soon.

I'd rather sit in my own car that i know only i have sat in, than bring a taxi out here that has maybe had 20+ people in the back of it that day.

Maybe in the "new normal" we will see a change in peoples driving habits, but right now everything is on hold.
  • Some manufacturers doing promotion on lease. Volvo is offerign S/V60 cheaply right now. Directly with them, no brokers.

The same near Bristol on the Severn (Portbury I think) - you can see probably 10's of thousands of new cars in salty atmosphere from the M5 - gradually starting to rust
People will buy them as brand new  and forget that they are probably 6 months old !

It doesnt matter.  They've protective coatings on them so the build date doesnt tend to matter so much.

It would be quite common for cars to sit around for six months, unless its a specific new car order.

These will be the first cars sold once the lockdown is lifted, allowing manufacturers to ramp up production.

^^^^ There are always thousands of cars parked there so nothing new so your tens of thousands is a bit of an overestimation.  O believe the whole of Portbury can accommodate about 90k the vast majority are JLR cars for export.
