I thought you only needed insurance if the vehicle is parked on the roads (but I could very well be wrong). Does it need to be SORN'd to leave it in garage?
The Law changed. A vehicle must either have insurance and tax (and MOT if it is used on the road) or be declared SORN and kept off the road at all times. (a SORN'd vehicle can be insured and MOT'd obviously, but it doesn't have to be)

The insurance tax and SORN are checked by computer, and  generate automatic penalties by post if the conditions are not met.

Thank you - I was not aware of that. Please could you point me to those regulations on GOV/DVLA website?

    That change happened in 2011.

Once lockdown's over, then if it were me...
    * Take out a policy in your name for the car.
    * Take it for an MOT, tax it.
    * Get it sold - a 2016 Jazz will be in decent demand, and most local used car places will be interested in it if it's any good.
    * Cancel the insurance. If you can do that within 14 days, then the "cooling off" period applies, and you'll get a full pro-rata'd refund for the policy itself. You'll get a full refund for the unused months of tax - but a 2016 Jazz is going to be, what, £30/yr if not free?

    Thank you @AdrianC
The tax expires end of June so we will SORN it for now. The MOT would have expired today, but is valid for another 6 months under the lockdown extension.
Good idea on the insurance - we can take out a policy once we have a buyer and cancel it within the 14 days.
