do you think that people may make an offer without viewing the house in the real life?
I wouldn't do it but everyone is different.
Friends of mine purchased their expensive, posh family home purely on the basis of the Estate Agents particulars and photos; they were working abroad at the time so only saw it in real life once they'd already bought it and finally returned to the UK, it worked for them as they ended up living there for around 30 years...
It's possible they might make offers with a view of viewing when possible.
But be prepared for the offer to be rescinded once they have seen the property in person, thereby negating this and pointless tbh

We have just had an offer accepted on a property from a video viewing. We've started the process in terms of conveyancing, mortgage applications etc.

We also bought a flat in 2018 from video viewing. We didn't step foot inside until completion day. We lived 350 miles away and it was a competitive area. It's not for everybody but for us it works.

Sold STC is the same as not sold under English property law.

Was a delay in processing mortgage applications. That may have delayed matters.

It isn't completely pointless as it takes the property off the market and excludes anyone else's interest and offer. They then see it in the flesh and decide if they really want it. Selfish!

We've received two offers during lockdown and made two offers during lockdown. The market is 100% moving in some areas.

Equally, I've noted two properties we've viewed and didn't go for which later had offers accepted, return to the market.

We’ve sold during lockdown, so has our buyer. We made a video tour. We’ve also had an offer accepted but we’d already viewed prior to lockdown.

Viewing houses has not been outlawed (as I understand it). If the property is empty, there is nothing stopping the estate agent meeting you at the property, opening up, and letting you wander around while they wait in the car. Same goes for the survey.
If you don’t need a mortgage, there’s no need for a valuation for mortgage purposes. Councils and solicitors are still working, so technically there’s no reason why sales can’t proceed.
If you will the end, you must will the means.
  • Our buyer's buyer pulled out so their house went back on the market. Someone who viewed it before lockdown then jumped on it. So that would be one way it has happened.

Viewing houses has not been outlawed I don't think, but you'd be hard pushed to find an agent to let you view. Unless, like Staffie says, the property is empty etc. I also wondered about this OP, as we are interested in a couple of properties 400 miles away. But we can't go there to view, even though it's empty. One is now SSTC and I was a bit peeved!
