The last figures I saw said 9 out of 10 deaths were where the patient had an underlying condition.
I do have one of those, my mother three, so yes I am rather terrified of catching coronavirus.
I get an annual flu jab and even getting a strain not covered in the jab is still very unlikely to kill me. I have some natural immunity to flu. There are treatments.
I also understand Covid 19 unchecked has a higher r number than flu.

I have a suppressed immune system due to my psoriasis treatment so am in the top group. The irony of it is that I cannot have my cancer treatment because of the psoriasis treatment.KxMx said:The last figures I saw said 9 out of 10 deaths were where the patient had an underlying condition.

I am worried about catching it and realise that it could possibly be fatal BUT I look at the overall picture about going back to work and believe my risk is very low of catching it in the workplace as my job has very little close person to person contact plus I control access to the area that I work in. I therefore think I am safe to go back to work and at the end of the 12 weeks shielding intend to go back regardless of any possible extension.
My bigger worry is the the effect that 12 weeks shielding is having on my already fragile mental health. I'm just getting that under control now and it can only have a deleterious effect0 -
Yes, because we are both young, healthy, both already had it, and we arent paranoid to the point that we are going to lock ourselves away for the rest of time 🙄 if anyone wants to, by all means do so. But let the rest of us get on with things now.just_trying said:Suki the fear is it can be deadly. The deaths in care homes is probably due to staff going home, shopping etc as a lot are not staying /living in the care homes. The problem is people who haven't had it/ had no symptoms don't realise what it like and don't take it serious.
Bradder I read similar and I don't think a journey to KFC is a essential journey. . It's not paranoid would you be happy to possibly take it home!?3 -
OP, it's time to get back to work!
I've worked ALL the way through this and i've not caught anything.
You're lucky to have had 80% for doing nothing.
Remember the new slogan...
Get back to work > Use common sense > STOP MOANING.3 -
That's because all NHS staff are vaccinated annually. Hospital services continue. Allowed to run amok this virus could cause any number of broader issues relating to health services scross the board.kaMelo said:This is flu, we all know the flu season comes around every year, it's well understood scientifically and we have a well established vaccination programme for those most at risk. Despite all this thousands die every year and most people don't blink an eyelid over it.
People have become complacent over recent years. Much in the same way that immunisation against measles is causing concern.1 -
In areas of Germany lifting of restrictions is already showing how quickly the rate of infection can increase. Only takes one person in a party of 20-30 people to reignite at a local level.suki1964 said:just_trying said:Suki the fear is it can be deadly. Take what's happening in them out of the equation and we would have an R of about 0.2

Lifting restrictions is obviously going to change the rate of infection. But it gets to the point that the lockdown will cause more harm then good.
