And I bet the reason is that most of their stock is sold on ebay 'with receipt'
Nothing against ebayers selling them but as a large retailer they should not deny a persons rights to a refund just because the item is in demand, i notice you cannot reserve them either with argos using the online reservation.

argos won't let you reserve a console online, but you can reserve them by phoning or visiting your local store. this is how i got mine.

not so - if you buy a brand new wii from an ebay seller and you get the original receipt with it then you can go back to the original retailer if there is a problem. It's like christmas presents, if you get a present that develops a fault then you don't go back to the person who gave it to you and ask them to sort it out, the most you would do is ask them if they still had the receipt.

Legally only the person who bought the item can return it even if it is a present and was given to you with the receipt. Stores don't usually enforce this, though I know that you can hit problems with one of the major electrical retailers who ask for your address when you purchase.
    Problems with a gift
If you have received a gift that develops a fault generally it is the person who bought the gift who can sort things out. If you are giving someone a gift you can get round this problem by letting the trader know who the gift is for when you buy it. You can do this by making a note on a receipt for instance. The trader can exclude this particular right though.

I didn't realise that. Very useful to know though so thanks. still seems a bit silly though - i mean, what if you are returning an item (any item) on behalf of a friend? i guess this is getting off topic though.

    Hi Pete,

A lot of people this week have forgotten to put the code in and then phoned up customer services to say in their haste to bag a wii they forgot to put code in. JL seem to have been really good with crediting money onto their account. I think the Festive20 gets you £20 off but you might want to check on the codes page.

    Good luck!

Just rung JL up and they said they should be able to add the £10 off once the goods have left the warehouse.
