Sold car privately - Now told the car was misdescribed

Why has the number plate been blocked out at the back and in the info but not at the front?0

All this conjecture is well and good but the fact of the matter is the op was not aware of it being damaged and it had (as far as the op was concerned) a clear HPI check and an MOT.
As has previously been said the time to do research is before you buy a car and not after.0 -

Looking at the photo's, I think that the rear plate was blacked out on the plate itself rather than just in the photographs and this may have been done if the wreck was loaded onto a trailer with only the back being visible and for one reason or another, the owner or people doing the moving didn't want the details made public.Spank said:Why has the number plate been blocked out at the back and in the info but not at the front?0 -

If it was loaded on to a trailer/transporter then the plate will be blocked off to prevent it being captured by ANPR/Speed cameras - something which has happened before.shaun_from_Africa said:

It may have been uninsured, or the owner may have sold it directly to a breaker without making a claim.Manxman_in_exile said:waamo said:All this conjecture is well and good but the fact of the matter is the op was not aware of it being damaged and it had (as far as the op was concerned) a clear HPI check and an MOT.

Yes that's the car. My next question is how can a car that looked like that have a clean HPI check and two MOT's passed with flying colours. No advisories, nothing. When I went to buy the car in 2019 I went accompanied by my brother in law and we both tested and checked the car. On top of the HPI check, the seller also told me verbally and via facebook messenger that the car never been in an accident.Manxman_in_exile said:Spank said:Why has the number plate been blocked out at the back and in the info but not at the front?I wondered about that - presumably an oversight when listing it?MariusAdam - is that the car? I'm not convinced it muddies the waters at all. The vehicle was sold in good with and with good title. Independent checks showed no issues and the V5c did not show it as having any write off category registered. The op was also assured it was a straight motor.Manxman_in_exile said:waamo said:All this conjecture is well and good but the fact of the matter is the op was not aware of it being damaged and it had (as far as the op was concerned) a clear HPI check and an MOT.

The op is only legally obliged to be honest to the best of their knowledge in the description. It is up to the buyer to do their own research.0 -
Cat U's are the nirvana for those wanting to buy and sell salvage for profit as there is no record of it being written off.
Copart always covers up the Reg plate but sometimes they miss them, if you have an account you can always get the reg number.
I don't think the damage is too bad but I would have passed on it because the airbags had gone off0
