The whole point of the thread is that I have already tried to switch and can't because the property isn't on the national database. I haven't just tried once; I've tried multiple times. Each time I'm told I need to wait for a bill from E-on or get E-on to add the property to the national database.

All I'm asking is if anyone has been through this and can offer help in expediting that process. I thought that was clear from the first post.

Not that it's relevant to the question I asked, but the electricity consumption since we moved in is 946Kwh and gas is 1492Kwh.

If I recall you were also scared by the £4 a day running cost  and £50 more a month than your previous home figure.
The consumption figures you are giving do show that this is not as bad as you suggest - assuming some dreadful rates of say 3p for gas and 17p for elec  - your bill to date is about £45 for gas and £170 for elec - add standing charges and VAT  - perhaps £250  about £70 a month -nowhere near £4.  Your previous home must have been very cheap.

For info your elec consumption is above average.
I have no further comments re Eon - you either sit it out and wait for them to sort themselves out or you force the issue by trying to switch.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I don't know how many times I have to say this - I have tried to switch! Multiple times!

At no point have I suggested I was scared by the figures from the IHD but surely everyone on this forum is here because they don't want to be paying over the odds? I'm stuck on a big 6 standard tariff. That's why I've been trying to switch.

Our electricity consumption will always be above average. Apart from the impact of lockdown and having all three of us in the house all day, with my husband and me working from home and our daughter online too, my husband works in IT and we have a ridiculous amount of electrical equipment connected to that.

I totally get that you have tried to switch before, take that as a given.
At some point they are going to get the database updated and you will be able to switch, so you can either wait to be told it has been done, or you can keep checking using the onli9ne/phone routes to see who the database lists as the supplier to your address and when it recognises the address you can go ahead and switch, or you just keep trying to switch anyway and at some point it will go through...
Beyond that there is nothing you can do to make it happen faster, but you can just go ahead and get a complaint letter in to start the clock ticking on the ombudsman route...

With warmer weather here and heating going off, the cost difference will be minimal-nothing like £4 a day. In the meantime you are not stuck on an SVT: just choose the cheapest Eon tariff without exit penalties. They can switch you to that instantly.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I drafted that when you suggested it the other day. Thanks for your initial suggestions. Thanks also for answering the question that no, there's nothing else I can do to speed the process up, which was all I really wanted to know.  :)

We chased E-on today. They were back to "We can't find your address on our system, can you provide the meter numbers?" so I'll add that into the complaint before I send it. Someone mentioned penalties for delaying a switch; does anyone know if this would qualify?

Start another switch, as previously suggested several times, and the clock will start ticking under the new rules effective from 1 May 2020.

Actually, you're the first suggest starting another switch. And our most recent attempt was after that date, so looks like we're covered in that regard. Thanks for the link.

Hope the new rules are your Get Out Of Jail card, and that you collect £30 a few times as you pass Go !
Don't forget to come back and tell us how you get on.
  • We moved into a new build property in February and were told by the builder that the energy was currently with E-on.
    Hi,
some of the blame here has to be with the builder, supplier issues should've been sorted out before house transfer to you.
Take some of your ire out on the builder and seek a goodwill gesture from them for the hassle.
